Truly heartbreaking to hear of the death of my friend Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan — killed in the most appalling of circumstances while campaigning for his political party.
He was a statesman of the highest calibre. A dependable partner and trusted ally. A consummate host. But also the warmest and kindest of friends.
My prayers and deepest sympathies are with his family and the people of Japan.
We disagree on many issues but I’d like to thank you @nicolasturgeon for your long, tireless service to our country & for the professional relationship we maintained as leaders.
I can assure you that there is plenty of scope to contribute from the backbenches.
Today at the Cenotaph we honour the memory of the men and women who gave their lives so that we could be free.
As we remember their sacrifice, we pay tribute to all those serving our country around the world in defence of these hard-won freedoms today.

An honour to be in Japan to pay tribute to Shinzo Abe — a trusted ally whom I was proud to call a friend.
Our relationship enabled our nations to deepen a vital alliance. I know that under PM @fumio_kishida the 🇯🇵-🇬🇧 partnership will continue to go from strength to strength.
Good to be back at the UN this week to discuss international efforts in tackling human trafficking.
Also a pleasure to see @speakerpelosi again & to support our @foreignanddevelopmentoffice teams working with inspiring women in business on #IWD2023.

The SNP has the opportunity for once to put the people of Scotland 🏴 first & end its obsession with breaking us apart.
For 70 years, Her Majesty has been steadfast in her selflessness, in her dedication to duty & in her commitment to her country. For that we simply say: thank you, Ma’am.
God Save The Queen 🇬🇧

Good to see @antonioguterres again at the UN to discuss human trafficking & the situation in Ukraine. In particular, how governments can help prevent modern slavery & protect unaccompanied child refugees, who are being left to the mercy of criminal gangs attempting to make money from their suffering.

Five years ago, Russia carried out a chemical weapons attack on UK soil.
It was a reckless act of aggression that would not go unpunished. As part of our response, we coordinated action with our allies which resulted in the largest collective expulsion of Russian intelligence officers in history.
On the anniversary of the Salisbury poisonings, we renew our commitment to counter Russia’s threat to international security and to defend the values that underpin our way of life.

Today we pay tribute to the courage of the Ukrainian people & remember their fallen.
Britain stands united with Ukraine against Putin’s brutality — not just in defence of a sovereign state, but of democracy itself.
Great to talk to @juliagillard about the challenges women face both online and in everyday attitudes. Her work at the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership shows we still have a lot to do and we must keep our feet on the accelerator #iwd2022
It was a privilege to deliver the James Brokenshire memorial lecture today.
James was a dedicated public servant. He embodied decency, honesty & integrity. I spoke about how we can do more to live up to those values.

Pleasure to mark #IWD2023 earlier this week by speaking to military personnel at @natomaritime Northwood on leadership & military success. Women remain underrepresented in leadership roles, but we are making good progress.
