Caption : It took me 5 years to come to terms with this episode of our lives but I have finally summoned the courage to talk about my ordeal to help many parents who reach out to @haag.peter & I as they deal with the trauma of preterm birth and loss of a baby. Peter n I want such parents to know that they can get through this. In personal experience we both can vouch that your Preemie baby is a true survivor. #preemies show us the power of faith & prayer and the fight of the human spirit. Remember that most #prematurebabies survive and live completely normal, healthy lives. PS: Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks of #pregnancy are completed. The outcome of our 2nd spontaneous #twinpregnancy was bittersweet due to Baby Shamsher’s loss due to a heart condition.( I went into labour at 32 weeks due to my fathers sudden passing.) It was very difficult for Peter n I but we smiled after many million tears in this photograph (1) to seal a happy memory for our blessing baby @arthurjhaag arrival as he went straight to NICU in an incubator for 3 months immediately upon his arrival. The NICU was a strange & difficult environment. From our experience, accepting that there will be good days and bad days will help you to feel less shocked & worried when challenging days happen. While not an option for everyone, Peter & I moved into the same hospital in Dubai for the few months of #nicu as loss of Shamsher left us immensely anxious about Arthur and feelings of frustration, intense sadness, nervousness, disappointment, guilt, anger, love overwhelmed us too. So please know that you are not alone in how you are feeling. Know that extreme & sometimes contradictory emotions are experienced by nearly every parent of a preemie at one time or another. It is very important at such a time to remember you can be more effective as a team than individually so watch your teamwork as parents. Speaking, singing gently to your premature baby in the NICU is a great way to bond and feel close, even when you can’t hold him. Remember Impossible odds set the stage for incredible miracles. Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it. #celinajaitly

Caption : Not perfect but working very hard and never giving up. I still have multiple hernia’s, severe Diastasis recti of the abdominal wall after carrying two sets of twins. It hasn’t been easy as as many people suggest, I almost had a lung collapse in my second twin pregnancy, battled severe depression due to loss of both my parents and baby @arthurjhaag s twin Shamsher … Every day felt like I had start all over again, I sometimes couldn’t recognise the person I saw in the mirror… Having said that.. I always turned to my army upbringing in my darkest times. Strength does not come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming the things you believe you cannot do. I am posting this for everyone out there who feel like giving up. From my personal experience all I can say is you have to keep going, sometimes it’s going to be great and sometimes you will feel like nothing is right but don’t stop trying just because you’ve hit the wall. Caption : One of the best things that I have learnt living in Austria is living with the goal of a life in agreement with nature. While I live in a scenic historic village in the very high altitude alpine area of central Austria I do often take trips to the bigger cities like Graz, Vienna & Salzburg for some “ME Time”. These historic cities have tiny beautiful lanes that tell tales of centuries and going through them is like a journey snaking through time periods, from past into present. However, the only drawback is finding a place to park. While I only feel most comfortable driving all terrain SUVs One of my favourite things to do is rent this amazing two-seat electric microcar & enjoy a day of European city pleasures while feeling good about my carbon footprint ( and finding the best parking spots) Austria is considered to be the environmental flagship of Europe and I have learnt so many wonderful things here. Caption : Dumbell Chakdi Aii !!! I found I was more confident when I stopped being someone else’s definition of beautiful and started being my own. The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do. My fitness journey after two consecutive twin pregnancies has been quite a graph. I was dealing with my mind and body who were behaving as two entirely different entities. I would work on my mind and body would give up, but whenever I worked on my body my mind remained stable and elevated. Working out helped combat my phases of depression following my parents & baby’s loss during my second twin pregnancy, specifically certain workouts which I tailored myself during covid lockdowns. Working out around post pregnancy rectus diastases and hernias is even more challenging, you wonder why your tummy won’t go away or why your body feels spongy despite many efforts to get back to Gymn and hours of cardio. I did not hire a team of trainers to help me, I worked on educating myself in sports science, as well as taking advantage of my #austrian alpine outdoors during Covid … It took a lot of work and now some results are showing and I am sharing them to inspire you not to give up on yourselves. We all are works in progress and are roads which will always be under construction so instead of being hard on yourself just be consistent. Caption : There is no giant step that can take you there! But, consistent and small steps can! I still have multiple hernia’s, severe Diastasis recti of the abdomen after carrying 2 sets of twins. Lost my parents & a baby in my 2nd twin pregnancy and had a condition close to a lung collapse as well. There are sometimes which are so difficult when you no longer can come to terms with life or recognise the person you see in the mirror… As human beings we will always have these days, some of us more than others.. There are days when I have to battle and confront so much darkness, but then Life has its UPS and DOWNS and I started turning them into SQUATS. Even though I am still building my self from scratch,I know there is something inside of us that is greater than any obstacle… In my darkest moments I hear my dad’s fauji ( military) voice in my mind that says Yaad rahey… Naam., Namak aur Nishaan (BC😄!! ) and I turn into a GC (Gentleman Cadet) and start lifting… Amazingly every workout big or small also changes how I feel…. To all those who have struggled with darkness I posted a glimpse of my story hoping to reach out to you to tell you that you are not alone. Give yourself another day, another chance. You will find your courage eventually. I am experiencing immense pain, grief and anger and mental distress as each day unfolds in Palestine . I do not understand politics but as a devout Hindu, as a humanitarian, as a mother, as a woman my religion and my belief system does not permit me to stay silent at the horrific consequences upon #palestinian civilians and above all their children. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has a “clear goal of destroying Hamas’s military and governing capabilities”, as well as freeing the hostages. However all I see is collective punishment of all Palestinians for the actions of Hamas. All i see is bodies of small children strewn over the Palestinian soil. I do not understand politics and have no intentions to get into them but what “military” are they fighting? Palestinian civilians have no line of defence, no army, no navy, no airforce. The Palestinians don’t control their own borders. They don’t even control the Gaza sea. So on a basic, power dynamic level, there are no ‘two sides’ to this.  While I deeply condemn the unprecedented assault on Israel from the Gaza Strip on 7 October, killing 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostages is the killing and maiming all the children of #palastine the answer? 19000 Palestinians have been killed out of which approximately 9000 are children. Winter is descending, millions are displaced there is fighting and shelling everywhere. There are only 3 hospitals which are now out of all resources. All aid channels cut off.. Where do the people go, with their casualties with their children, senior citizens ? Even if they do find shelters in schools and at @unitednations shelters they are still bombed there on pretext of aiding terrorists. An eye for an eye will leave the entire world blind. I urge the world leaders to come together. The guns MUST be silenced !!! When I was feeling down n out about the outcome of consecutive twin pregnancies on my petite frame, with hernias and diastases etc I still remember my late mother telling me “A baby is a reason, not an excuse. Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your kids.” So through my highs and lows, including loosing my biggest strengths my mom & dad … I kept going at my own pace, after all healing is not only a process but a lifestyle. Caption : 1971 BATTLE OF BHADURIA #VijayDivas My late father Colonel VK Jaitly ( SM) narrated: “As I lay in a pool of my blood for 72 hours before evacuation, around me was a field of death. Many of my brothers lay moaning in excruciating agony, ripped into pieces. Even though my whole body was full of sharpnels and leg ripped by bullets my own injuries seemed futile. I lay crying seeing my brothers moan in agony as I crept to a critically injured soldier and administered him the last of my pain killer. The only thing common among all of us who lay dying on the battlefield was the word “Ma”. In that pain, in that last dying breath “Ma” was the only word that seemed to give us comfort. “Ma” the one who gave us birth is what remained on our lips as we died.. as we succumbed to valour.” Today on Vijay Divas, I remember my late and beloved father COLONEL VK JAITLY ( SM), 17 KUMAON, commissioned with in 1970 with SS-9 (Gadar) Course. My father was critically wounded with severe bullet & shrapnel injuries aged only 21. He survived but with severe life long injuries and went on to serve in the Army with great pride and honour and also eventually also commanded 16 Kumaon. He received two wound medals and a Sena medal. He always said Bhaduria was a very bloody battle and the casualties were unbelievable. Thanks to the sacrifices our brave men Bhaduria and Bangladesh was liberated. Today take this opportunity in honouring all of the @indianarmy.adgpi above all the man eater’s of 17 Kumaon, officers/ jawans/ JCO’s of this #VijayDiwas 1971 Bangladesh/ Battle of Bhaduria,. Caption : 1971 BATTLE OF BHADURIA #VijayDivas My late father Colonel VK Jaitly ( SM) narrated: “As I lay in a pool of my blood for 72 hours before evacuation, around me was a field of death. Many of my brothers lay moaning in excruciating agony, ripped into pieces. Even though my whole body was full of sharpnels and leg ripped by bullets my own injuries seemed futile. I lay crying seeing my brothers moan in agony as I crept to a critically injured soldier and administered him the last of my pain killer. The only thing common among all of us who lay dying on the battlefield was the word “Ma”. In that pain, in that last dying breath “Ma” was the only word that seemed to give us comfort. “Ma” the one who gave us birth is what remained on our lips as we died.. as we succumbed to valour.” Today on Vijay Divas, I remember my late and beloved father COLONEL VK JAITLY ( SM), 17 KUMAON, commissioned with in 1970 with SS-9 (Gadar) Course. My father was critically wounded with severe bullet & shrapnel injuries aged only 21. He survived but with severe life long injuries and went on to serve in the Army with great pride and honour and also eventually also commanded 16 Kumaon. He received two wound medals and a Sena medal. He always said Bhaduria was a very bloody battle and the casualties were unbelievable. Thanks to the sacrifices our brave men Bhaduria and Bangladesh was liberated. Our flag rests on the graves of the brave who “chose” smilingly to lay their lives for our country. My father was a young Lieutenant when he was gravely wounded in 1971 war. He lived the rest of his life smilingly despite the damage the war had done to his body and soul, but never once did he ever complain. My grandfather was prisoner of war in the 1962 Chinese aggression, tortured, wounded but never once regretted fighting for his country, he used to smile and tell me stories of the times when the combat gear for high altitude in those days was no comparison to what soldiers have today, they fought with normal boots in high altitude in negative temperatures and 8-10 feet of snow and in the 1962 war even though they were outnumbered by the enemy each Indian soldier died taking 20 enemies with him. I saw in my own brother a Para SF, officer the strain of combat and how he remained changed forever after his many years of deployment in dangerous active combat zones. The price our soldiers pay both in life and in death is beyond comprehension, no compensation is enough to repay them and their families for their ultimate sacrifice hence I take the time today yet again to value the ones on whom our freedom rests, our nations heroes and never forget the sacrifices from those who gave us freedom. Caption : This year marks 22 years since I became a runners up at the @missuniverse pageant held in SanJuan, Peurto Rico in 2001 right after India’s great triple wins at Ms Universe, Ms World & Miss Asia Pacific the year before ( @larabhupathi @priyankachopra @diamirzaofficial ). Amongst 103 contestants at only 5 ft 6 inches ( I was one of the shortest contestants that year) yet I went on to become a runners up, a moment of great pride for me, upholding my country’s legacy. I entered the fashion industry at a very young age (15) after being scouted at an army party. The struggles that one went through in a new and upcoming fashion industry in a not so open minded kolkata was not easy, plus the pressure of studies & competitive exams made my entire teenage a journey of hard work and toil. I also suffered from severe acne and very severe endometriosis and had to be hospitalised almost every month during my Menstruation due to severe dysmenorrhea and blood loss so it was an incredibly intense life for a child who had many dreams and aspirations. While others would enjoy weekends I would take up shoot and ramp show offers in kolkata and work for meagre amounts of monies. Many a times I wouldn’t even end up getting paid for my hard work and unauthorised use of images due to lack of industry regulations. Then there was the constant criticism and rejection either I was too white, too thin, not tall enough or too tall etc. For many years I had to hear many derogatory things about all the things that made me unique and go on despite that. For a child in her teens it was truly overwhelming hence the journey to the crown was a very intense one. Crowns… after all are not made of sparkling stones, they are made of sheer determination, strength, dedication, devotion, struggle and immense courage too. Beauty is a “Powerful Tool of Persuasion” & I am so thankful for having the opportunity represent my country on various platforms since as an actor, brand ambassador UN equality champion and an activist. Caption : To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist that is all ~ Oscar Wilde ~ I first started hiking as a kid in the mountains of Kumaon, Arunachal Pradesh with my father & grandfather. My military dad’s postings ultimately saw the end of my most beloved activity and had to embrace a lot of change. The Kumaon, Tawang and Kashmir hills did not leave my mind and I would turn to my childhood images in mind every time I was stressed. My husband @haag.peter who is also a mountaineer taught me a lot about tackling the alpine high altitudes and over the years my summits became higher and higher. Returning to hiking as a sport and fitness activity did more for my mind,the body fitness was just an an extra beneficial side effect specifically after two twin pregnancies. When you hike, you train your body to work as it’s designed; lots of muscles, all working in synergy, adapting to the situation as required. Gyms often lack this by exercising muscles in only one direction, so if there is a possibility for a hiking route I truly recommend taking that drive out of your city and trying it at least once a month. Living in Austria I take advantage of the alpine mountains and do so almost every 3 days and certainly loving what it does to both my mind and body !! So while my affair with high heels continues, I am deeply entangled in a ménage à trois with my hiking boots 😉! To be blessed with the joy of being parents to twins has been so fabulous ( and mind boggling lol 😂) Even though we have tried our best to capture every cherished moment of you both for the last 11 years the speed at which children grow up defies the laws of physics. We are so proud of you both and the gentlemen you are turning out to be… I constantly go between wanting you to stay my puppies forever, and being excited about all of the amazing things you will do in this life. Caption : FOR THE CHILDREN OF PALESTINE 🇵🇸 My soldier father always taught me “Speak up… Even if your voice shakes !!” I am not shaking out of fear… I shake with immense pain, grief, anger & mental distress as each day unfolds in #palestine More than 10,000 children have died as we went about our daily lives since October. The remaining are maimed, orphaned, displaced and starving. Why are the civilians and children of #palastine being collectively eliminated for the actions of Hamas ? Where is international diplomacy? Where are the world leaders ? Who will stand for the millions being bombed and deprived even from aid ? While I condemn October 7th attacks on Israeli civilians I protest vehemently against the flattening of an entire country, its civilians, thousands of children and cutting out aid for the same as a response. Caption : A TALE OF TWO SOLDIERS- MY GRANDFATHER COLONEL E FRANCIS & GENERAL AYUB KHAN (2nd president of #pakistan) Found this fascinating photo from my family archives: My maternal grandfather Colonel Eric Francis as a young lieutenant ( black hair, seated in khaki uniform 2nd from viewer’s right) next to “then” Lieutenant Col Ayub Khan who went on to serve as the second president of Pakistan when they served as officers in the British Army, pre independence. They both fought together in the Second World War on the British side against the Imperial Japanese Army in Burma. They were soldiers, brothers in arms who were ready to give their lives for each other. With a twist of fate and partition of India-Pakistan they went on to become sworn enemies who would face off against each other in 1965 when Ayub Khan launched Operation Gibraltar against India in 1965, leading to an all-out war. It resulted in peace being restored via the Tashkent Declaration. The simple twists of fate and the breaks of the game are the two maxims that define so much of the success and failure in life. I wish Nana was alive so I could ask him so much more. Caption : ♥️HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR ARTU♥️ Today our baby @arthurjhaag turned 6. My husband @haag.peter captured some beautiful moments today during our visit to the grave of @arthurjhaag s twin brother-baby Shamsher, whom we lost to a heart condition. Artu wanted his new pet Dinosaur to meet Shamsher on their birthday. The older twins @winstonjhaag & @viraajjhaag placed little cars on Shamsher’s grave leaving us all moist eyed. Todays birthday celebrations were bitter sweet but very blessed. A hike in the morning with his daddy followed by loads of icecream cake and treats. Artu also insisted on fulfilling his duty of donating toys that he does not play with anymore as per our family tradition as he had the opportunity to shop for new toys of his choice as his birthday present. Artu’s birthday is such a blessing for it is always a reminder to us of the fact that there is always a light at the end of a tunnel. As memories saturate my heart and the story spills from my eyes I am so grateful that I have lived to tell these stories. Remember courage is an accumulation of small steps… Our Artu did not only bring immense joy and laughter to my grief stricken moments but he also taught me that- “I can be changed by what happens to me. My father COLONEL VIKRAM KUMAR JAITLY, (SM )was a war hero a brave officer of the Indian army. He was feared by the enemy and immensely revered by the troops he commanded but the side of him that I knew was that of a tender hearted kind and gentle giant with a heart of gold. He was an officer and a gentleman till the day he died. He was only 20 years old when he was severely wounded in 1971 war. Bullets ripped his leg and shrapnel’s pierced his entire body. He lived his whole life with those injuries and scars deep within his soul and never let them affect his role as soldier or a father. My father was the real deal, the real breed of men. The man eating tigers of the Kumaon regiment of the Indian army. My deepest prayers are to be born again as his daughter if there is a rebirth.
