The trauma from this sort of event is of such a colossal magnitude, I’m struggling to put it into words. For some trauma will be a new occurrence in their life, for others – those who live with the trauma of war – it will be compounded. All will need our help in many different ways.
This is what my charity @inaraorg will be doing, keeping in mind the situation is still fluid.
In the short term we are looking to raise around $150,000. We are looking to spend a portion of this in partnership with trusted organizations on the ground in NW Syria, where there are no international rescue teams (just local orgs like the @the_whitehelmets you see in this video) and very little international humanitarian assistance & there is a dire need for diesel to run heavy machinery to dig through the rubble, shelters, food, medicine and other non-food items. Another portion will be spent in Turkey, where will not only be looking to provide all forms of support to our beneficiaries families, who are among the most vulnerable given that they already have traumatic medical and mental injuries, but also to ALL who have been impacted. We are also looking at the logistics of a mobile medical team so we can provide first aid, similar to what we did for the Beirut blast.
In the longer term we will be conducting a more thorough needs assessment, but my gut and our previous experience tells us that we will need to focus on mental health interventions as well medical ones were needed. We will be looking at setting up safe spaces for children where we can run PSS activities and where their parents can also catch a break so that we can at least help them all try to recover from their trauma.
We already have beneficiaries and other families who are telling us that their kids are afraid to be indoors.
Donate to us at link in bio or frankly just donate to anyone because we are all needing your help and everyone is doing vital work. Syria and Turkey need you. | Posted on 09/Feb/2023 00:08:50
