I’m so grateful to @lifestylemagtv for having me on to discuss mental health issues and my goal to destigmatize mental health issues and change the conversation around it and how we view sufferers. Truthfully, to be completely transparent, I feel like I’m still figuring out how to talk about about this subject. I honestly do get so nervous talking to other people in general. I truly do suffer from sever anxiety/social anxiety and if you watch the interview you’ll see me wringing my hands throughout it which is always a tell for me when I’m anxious. I’m still learning when it comes to navigate these things. I feel like I want to give a big thank you to @selenagomez since I mention her in the interview, for sharing her diagnosis. It was her bravery that gave me the courage to speak about mine. I’m endlessly grateful to everyone in the public eye who comes forward with their mental health issues. It helps so much knowing you’re not alone and seeing people who suffer with these things go on to be successful people and who are still navigate their disorders while maintaining that level of success. Professionally and personally. If anyone reading this and is relieved to know they aren’t alone then I’ve done my job. If you are suffering silently right now I want you know, you’re not alone. I’m here. I usually don’t share photos of my daughter so I can keep her privacy but these photos of her and ones with my manager/sister/mama Selena ( @soulla8 ) were too good not to share. I’ really enjoy public speaking and I truly hope I get to do more of it to share my experiences. If you or anyone you love are struggling please reach out for help. Look at my sisters!!! Eat your fucking heart out Christmas, my sisters own these colors now!! And look at my sweet brother-in-laws!! So damn dapper! My big sisters are everything to me and I truly cannot get over how stunning they are. They literally just sent this to me, now I must attend to the jaw I left on the floor
I absolutely stand in solidarity with SAG/AFTRA and the WGA. I know my costars share this sentiment and stand in solidarity with me, however, we do have to fulfill our contractual obligations. It doesn’t make us any less of actors or mean that we don’t agree with or don’t want all the regulations and protections that the strikes of both unions are trying achieve. While I can only speak for myself about how hard it is to rationalize this in my head, I did want to share this information. I absolutely mirror the sentiments of @nancyleegrahn

Please read below. These type of stories make my heart smile. This is why what is done at @inaraorg is so important. Please please think of donating today to give another child in need a chance at being a kid. Repost from @iamarwadamon • JUST GOT AN AMAZING SURPRISE GIFT! Marwan is incredibly smart and talented. He uses materials he finds in nature and comes up with incredible creations. More impressive tho are his mechanical abilities. He has had zero formal training, but he makes cars that actually move from old batteries and cables and cardboard. Its something of a miracle that he’s still alive. When Marwan was barely two years old his home in Syria was hit and flames consumed him. He sustained severe burns to the left side of his face, neck, arm, and hand. There were no doctors or hospitals in their area and snipers everywhere. After some time the family was able to get away but remained displaced inside Syria for years before they were able to cross into Lebanon. In other words Marwan spent years without receiving the treatment he needed. Through my charity @inaraorg, thanks to your donations, Marwan has already undergone several different skin expander surgeries and his burn scars are doing much better. Over the years he’s been in and out of school, driven away by bullies who mock him for his scars. But now he’s back and stronger. He’s learning how to cope with and respond to the cruel remarks of strangers and his peers. He’s understanding that while he may be perceived as “different” he is not “less than”. This is what you did for Marwan when you donated to INARA. You changed the course of his life. You gave him his agency, improved his physical and mental health, restored his ability to see a future beyond his injuries. We have a fun holiday fundraiser this season. When you donate, ie buy a ticket to our virtual concert we’ll send you the link and login to the event itself (featuring our own INARA children, @mingey, @carlachamoun) and we will DOUBLE your donation. Please read below to help children like sweet baby Lia. Link in my bio. The work @inaraorg does is so important. Please consider giving ❤️ Repost from @iamarwadamon • “For happiness one needs security, but joy can spring like a flower even from the cliffs of despair.” Anne Murrow Lindberg We cant give children ripped from their homes by war that sense of security back. We can’t erase the memories of death, bombs, and bullets. But joy? Oh yes, we can give them the ability to feel joy again. We can show them that their past and their injuries do not necessarily need to hold them back from their futures and their dreams. When you donate to my charity @inaraorg this holiday season this is what you are getting: YOUR DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED A TICKET TO OUR VIRTUAL CONCERT FEATURING OUR INARA CHILDREN And this is what you are giving: HEALTH HOPE DREAMS CONFIDENCE STRENGTH JOY Link in bio to donate and learn more. And if you are willing to help us share our messages please DM @inaraorg and we will send you a link to assets and text you can easily share. #childreninneed #strongertogether #changealife #changeachildsstory #holidaygiving #fundraisingforacause #virtualconcert
We need help more than ever. Please please watch and read below. The link to donate is as always in my bio. We need to help make a difference. Not only is @inaraorg providing life saving medical care they are also offering first responder aid for essentials and most importantly besides the physical care they offer mental health services which is another thing close to my heart. Please any amount helps! Repost from @iamarwadamon • It’s the generosity of those who have lost everything that always strikes me, those Syrian traditions that never seem to dissipate no matter how dire the circumstances. We spent the day in Hatay and the surrounding areas. Facades that crumbled exposing the raw gaping wounds of the lives that were. Buildings pancaked or crumbled. The stench of death everywhere. My charity @inaraorg is focused on filling in the gaps in access to aid – whether that’s because its not reaching families or they have specific needs / items that aren’t part of what is being given out. What we are finding is that the majority of those families are Syrian. I’m very worried about tensions and resentment towards the Syrian refugee population. It was already high, is highly politically charged, and very very sad. We’ve also been visiting the families of our beneficiaries. So far we’ve only been able to communicate with about half of them. A lot of people have been comparing this to a warzone. I don’t know that I would. This is something else entirely. There is a certain silence to people face’s here, as if the variety of emotions that our features express have been erased, and all that is left is stunned, deep, inexplicable sorrow. Conversations between strangers are a whispered list of who they have lost, news of death of a relative comes during a slow shuffle through the grocery store. Shock and trauma. Millions of people’s lives turned upside down by one single seismic event. We need to do everything to help all of them. Link in bio to donate to our efforts. #depremoldu #turkeysyriaearthquake #childreninneed #strongertogether
Repost from @iamarwadamon • This whole thing just makes me sick. I have this anger boiling inside of me and I don’t know where to put it. The Taliban has announced a ban on ALL female university students. The sisters in this photograph had, when I met them over the summer, a sliver of hope that a miracle would actually happen. And the words I heard not just from them but from just about everyone “No one cares about us. For the international community we are less significant than animals” are just so achingly, painfully true. At the time that we met, back in June, their lives had stagnated, mostly spent indoors. They were lovely, smart, eloquent. The eldest had studied economics at university & recently graduated before the Taliban took over. There was a time when she wanted to start her own business. The middle sister was waiting to hear if she was going to be able to sit for the university exam. She wanted to study law and international relations, but she had shelved the law aspiration with the Taliban coming to power. Back then, the Taliban was allowing women to pursue a higher education, just on separate days than male students. The youngest, at 15, was the most distraught at the time. Female high school students were barred from going to class. She just sobbed and sobbed unable to put her emotions into words that made any sense to her. It was all too much. Back then, they still had hope in their hopelessness. They – and others – said the Taliban would open schools if the international community recognized the Taliban. And surely the international community would figure out a way, if not recognition, then something. Surely the international community would not allow girls to be weaponized in this way. And yet here we are. As it stands half of the country is denied an education beyond primary school. Its disgusting. And how this all came to be is even more revolting. #letafghangirlslearn #educationisaright #womeneducation #womensrightsarehumanrights #letgirlslearn
Please consider giving this year. All the proceeds go to our medical and mental health programs offered to children living in areas of conflict. In times like we find ourselves now, war and hate running rampant, these kids deserve a chance at a childhood. Just as we want for our own children, these parents just want to raise their kids. Kids shouldn’t have to pay the price of the wars of men. All children deserve a childhood. Repost from @inaraorg • There are a lot of convincing reasons to buy a concert ticket this Holiday season! Join these children and make this a season full of love and healing for them on https://inara.org/xmas/
Another story of how @inaraorg continues to show up. If you read below you’ll see how Tahani was already receiving treatment for severe burns sustained when her tent caught fire, when her family had to flee from the bombings in Syria. Now this. How much trauma must one little girl go through. @inaraorg is on the grounds offering essential services like water, food, clothing and supplies. On top of that they offer treatments for both physical and mental health traumas. Please help us continue to make a difference. These are just people, families trying to flee the wars of men they’ve never met. I’m just so desperate for people to see themselves in these people instead of seeing them as people who live far away in a country at war. I would hope with how scary things have gotten here and so many places abroad, that people would see themselves and know that anything can happen anywhere to anyone. When they do, we’re all people trying to survive. People who would others would help. Please donate today. Any amount can help. Repost from @iamarwadamon • As the aftershocks hit Tahani screamed “Daddy I don’t want to die, get me out of the house”. Tahani is one of my charity @inaraorg cases. The family lives in Kahramanmaras. It may sound familiar now, its been in the news plenty due to the vast destruction caused by the earthquake here. I find myself wondering how her young mind is processing all of this. A little girl who already knew what it was like to have home not be safe so many times. When bombs forced her family to flee Syria, when her tent caught fire and she burned and her bother died … and now… Link in bio to donate to our work in the earthquake zone
Repost from @iamarwadamon • Our INARA kids are busy rehearing for this! They will be singing alongside the lovely and extremely talented @carlachamoun with a special surprise from INARA advisor, the one and only @mingey. I’m so excited. Not just about sharing our children’s talents, but about what this experience means to them. All too many of our children have been relegated to a life of isolation to their injuries. Yes, that starts to change once they receive their medical and mental health treatment, but this, this is something totally different. With this concert they will step into the spotlight, a spotlight that society tells them they don’t deserve, that they should hide away from. They will see that they deserve to shine & own that spotlight! Your ticket purchase will be matched dollar for dollar, meaning that your money will be doubled. And can I say great gift idea? More details at link in bio & watch this space & follow @inaraorg leading up to the concert for updates, clips of the kids rehearsing and more on their backstories and how you have impacted their lives … because without your donations to INARA, well, this would not have been possible. #changeachildsstory #changealife #christmasmiracle #childreninneed #holidaygiving #giftidea
Repost from @inaraorg • Families like Mehmet Ali’s lost everything… Their relatives, memories, safety nets and the very place they call home. The confusion in the eyes of the little children is indescribable. The loss is huge, with a different kind of pain looking at their house destroyed to the ground. Let’s stand with the families, with these children who shouldn’t have to know this type of pain from such a young and innocent age. Donate through the link in our bio @inaraorg and help #INARA assist them during these difficult times.
Repost from @iamarwadamon • The trauma from this sort of event is of such a colossal magnitude, I’m struggling to put it into words. For some trauma will be a new occurrence in their life, for others – those who live with the trauma of war – it will be compounded. All will need our help in many different ways. This is what my charity @inaraorg will be doing, keeping in mind the situation is still fluid. In the short term we are looking to raise around $150,000. We are looking to spend a portion of this in partnership with trusted organizations on the ground in NW Syria, where there are no international rescue teams (just local orgs like the @the_whitehelmets you see in this video) and very little international humanitarian assistance & there is a dire need for diesel to run heavy machinery to dig through the rubble, shelters, food, medicine and other non-food items. Another portion will be spent in Turkey, where will not only be looking to provide all forms of support to our beneficiaries families, who are among the most vulnerable given that they already have traumatic medical and mental injuries, but also to ALL who have been impacted. We are also looking at the logistics of a mobile medical team so we can provide first aid, similar to what we did for the Beirut blast. In the longer term we will be conducting a more thorough needs assessment, but my gut and our previous experience tells us that we will need to focus on mental health interventions as well medical ones were needed. We will be looking at setting up safe spaces for children where we can run PSS activities and where their parents can also catch a break so that we can at least help them all try to recover from their trauma. We already have beneficiaries and other families who are telling us that their kids are afraid to be indoors. Donate to us at link in bio or frankly just donate to anyone because we are all needing your help and everyone is doing vital work. Syria and Turkey need you.
