Because he is the only one who always shows up for me, never makes me feel that I am too much when in fact I am, endures my intensity and neurosis but makes it look like a walk in the park, lets me go when I need to and takes me in like I never left, I dont have to lie to him ever and you guys have no idea what that means for someone like me; to be able to be me .. all of me because I am .. to put it nicely acquired taste 🙂 and not so easy to acquire yet he still chooses to live with me year after year. ‘No! Yasra I wont be acting this year I have other things to do’ said @shahzadnawaz and I was like whaaaaattttttt 😱 I found him very interesting, peculiar and so many other things when I went through his profile and interviews while casting for Mir Jalal; hell bent on gathering ‘a motley crew’ I knew he was the missing piece. It took some convincing but he reluctantly agreed and we met for the first time a day before shooting only to start off with an argument 😂 BUT he was and is the bigger man! I am literally half his size and he made it twice as easy for me to direct him. With all his experience, eccentricities and talent also comes unmatched discipline with which he works very diligently; even I fell short and according to him I really mean business. I am a perpetual seeker of love and I have found many forms of it in past 40 years in all the people I have ever met; there was a whole lot of heartbreak but also miraculous healing. However with @sarmadkhoosat it has always been only healing through his humor, laughter, sensitivity, vulnerability and generosity. So lets start with @hajra_yamin and @imarezahmed because I was the hardest on them and they took it like real troopers. They were fasting, it was hot as hell, more then half the shooting was outdoors and to top it all I was their director 😂 insanity had prevailed yet they stood by me till the very end! I speak of both of them together because they share many traits I really appreciate in actors; talent, dedication, punctuality, courtesy, endurance and the willingness to leave no stone unturned when it comes to giving the best possible performance. Also life on set becomes much easier when you are working with people you really want to work with and these two are on that list forever! @thesaniasaeed and @mssabahatbukhari Ladies first ❤ yes I am traditional like that 😂 First episode of Shanaas undoubtedly rested on the shoulders of these two beautiful and exceptional women. The ‘Mothers’ are at the heart of this story specially Mahrukh and Raheela who are poles apart inspite of being from the same generation and socio-economic class, their respective ideas and handling of the conflict is not just interesting to watch but thought provoking since we live in a society where mothers enjoy a lot of ‘creative control’ on their children’s lives even long after they stop being children. Mahrukh the bohemian enterprenuer is such a dynamic character who seems like the only adult around keeping it all together but falls apart like a little child when it comes to love and betrayal. Sania Saeed has done such a marvellous job at bringing so many conflicting emotions and that too all at once to this character. I was almost always in awe of her on the monitor. She breaks the mold over and over again and you cant help rooting for her. Raheela with all her poise and propriety is so matter of fact about her beliefs; its almost amusing the calmness Sabahat Bukhaari has played it out with. There is no loss of control yet the character keeps evolving and surprising us. She gives us hope that if addressed logically and timely generational patterns can actually change. What a treat it was to have her on set! I cant thank both of you enough for trusting me, supporting me and encouraging me through out the journey of Shanaas.
