Michael Bearden Instagram – Today, an entertainment, and civil rights colossus has passed! Harry Belafonte is Legendary! Iconic! Trailblazing! Also, I’m honored to be able to call Harry, a dear friend. ⠀ ⠀ Harry was someone who would call out of the blue, to check in, but also to discuss important issues of the day. Especially, issues pertaining to oppressed peoples. ⠀ ⠀ I still have voicemails of tasks, strategies, and even praise for something I did that he thought was great. Priceless! I may share one day. Just, not today. ⠀ ⠀ One of my favorite calls from Mr.B (a moniker we affectionately used for him) was him asking if I would MD his 93rd birthday party at the Apollo. Of course I accepted without hesitation! What a night it was!⠀ ⠀ A social media post could in no way accurately depict the true depth of greatness and influence of such an iconic career and life! ⠀ ⠀ But, what it can do is to shine just a little light on our shared, fragile existence, and the extraordinary human beings who dedicate their lives to the betterment of humanity! ⠀ ⠀ Rest well Mr.B! 🕊You will be missed! 🙏🏾 M~ #HarryBelafonte⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Michael Bearden Instagram – So heartbreaking to hear that one of my earliest music mentors has passed away! ⠀ ⠀ Some of you may not know who he was but, Ramsey Lewis was a jazz legend and a HUGE influence on my life! In general, as well as music!⠀ ⠀ I spent more than a few weekends at his home as a kid. I learned so much about piano and how to navigate the music business. And, just about life in general!⠀ ⠀ Ram was the epitome of class, dignity, grace and just overall elegance! Greatness! ⠀ ⠀ I think the main thing I learned from Ram was, musical patience! That comes in many forms. It’s the lesson I needed to learn. And, it has served me well in my long career. ⠀ ⠀ I already know he was proud of me, because he told me himself. I’ll hold onto that dearly!🙏🏾 ⠀ Healing energy to his family and all who loved him. I’m sad and gutted! 😞💔 But, so honored to have known him in my lifetime.⠀ ⠀ R.I.P. #RamseyLewis 🕊🕊🕊 M-
