Lisa Ray Instagram – Thanks @by.ushma devi and @makeupbymaitreyi for braving the sandstorm today to capture some moments in the Ray-Dehni mad, chaotic household. (Yes, we are that family that does the annual white shirt group photos 😂) I notice I’ve become terribly impatient and dare I say, awkward, in front of the camera lately, like a spell has broken. Perhaps on a deeper level this self-consciousness with being photographed marks the transition between swimming in the river and clambering out onto the sandy bank to watch the current stream by. I’M OVER IT. The desire to be seen a particular way, to play with artifice and disappear into a different character that photography afforded me my entire career has faded. But then I never truly prioritised grabbing eyeballs. Anyhow, today I’d rather watch my family being captured by the skillful eye of @by.ushma who specialises in natural, authentic images which is what draws me to her as a photographer and friend. Waiting – such an exquisite practise in a world of instant gratification – now for the results.
