On 15th September 1978, Peter performed at Grugahalle in Essen, Germany and the show was filmed for the Rockpalast TV show, including this version of Solsbury Hill.
“I’d had a dream of a melting face, some kind of wax effigy caught possibly in a museum fire. To achieve the painterly dripping effect we used ordinary Polaroids (after Les Krims) and if one pushes around the developing picture sandwiched between two bits of plastic with a blunt instrument like the end of a pencil the image is then smeared as it develops. The cover for the vinyl album was in black and white. This is the colour Polaroid from which it was taken, without further adornment. In later years we came to prefer it” – Storm Thorgerson

We’re looking forward to the North American tour…. Not long to go now!
Love Can Heal is ‘a dreamy, experiential piece with some abstract imagery,’ says Peter, ‘a carpet of sound, a tapestry where things are woven together, but not necessarily supposed to stick out, but just form part of a whole.’

Today’s rare blue supermoon heralds the release of the ninth track from i/o, ‘Love Can Heal’. Accompanying the release is @aardmananimations’s beautifully created video inspired by @antonymicallef’s artwork for the track. ‘They did a beautiful job, simple but very strong and I’m very pleased with it.’ – PG
Before Peter embarked on his Back to Front tour of the USA in 2012 he spoke to @rollingstone about the success of the So album… “There was less sort of esoteric songwriting. I think they were simpler songs in some ways, but I think we caught a wave. They were done with passion and we had a really good team working on them. Then, of course, we had things like the “Sledgehammer” video, which helped enormously. It got us a wider audience. Also, the one concession I agreed to was to place an actual photo of myself on the cover rather than the usual obscured stuff I had been doing.” – PG

This month’s full moon release comes with artwork from the artist @antonymicallef and his work ‘a small painting of what I think love looks like’.
“Antony Micallef is a stunning painter. I’d seen some of his portraits and they are with thick layers of paint, so there were references to Auerbach and Bacon for me, just very physical, very powerful and I just fell in love. Those paintings, in some ways, are more brutal, but this one is so tender and I think Antony manages to capture a lot of that intimate tenderness around love that is very hard to put into pictures.” – PG
“By resonating deeply with the song’s intricate themes, the video becomes a testament to the essence of artistic expression—a visual voyage mirroring the artist’s own journey of self-discovery. It’s a compelling invitation to question the very nature of our perceived reality, which aligns strikingly with the essence of ‘Panopticom’.” – Vnderworld

“It sounds trite just to say ‘love can heal’, but I really believe that it is a key element and that when people feel interaction, warmth, giving, part of something alive and not isolated, that they’re much more likely to do well and be able to offer more themselves.” – PG
Antony Micallef collaborated with @aardmananimations on the video that accompanies the song. “Working with Aardman was amazing. I love processes, especially in other mediums and so I found the mechanics of how this stuff comes together really interesting.” – @antonymicallef
Another subject on this record, and probably age-appropriate, is trying not to judge things in binary form, good / bad. Finding a way to use all experiences as a step-up to somewhere else.

“I was thrilled with the opportunity to create visuals for ‘Panopticom’ and at the possibility of creating a music video for Peter Gabriel. I created this video in 1 week with the use of Stable Diffusion Deforum via the open-source WebUI, Automatic1111, after months of deep-dive learning and creating 2D and 3D motion parameters within the tool.” – Vnderworld

Just like i/o, ‘Olive Tree’ is about how in some ways we as humans are part of everything, and we may have the means to connect with everything around us.
“Love Can Heal was written around 2016 and I did start playing it midway through the tour and dedicated it to Jo Cox, who was the British MP brutally murdered by an extremist and someone that I had met at a leadership conference. I think the song fits right into the themes of the album in the sense that i/o is about feeling and being connected to everything and in a way, the next evolution of being connected to things is a feeling of love for everything.” – PG
“The music video tells a story of what life would be like if we were to change things or make an insignificant choice. The power of AI and stable diffusion lies in its ability to transport Peter to any location, dress in any fashion and experience dimensions beyond the real world.” – @junielaux
