They want us to think there’s only room for one of us, but we’re too smart for that. We all grew up being compared to our cousins, but now we don’t entertain that. And when we see eachother win, we stand up and cheer for that. Because together we are stronger. Period. This is the culture. Kuriyan Brown 👑

Lilly Singh Instagram – Superlatives look different when you’re born with less privilege. India may seem far away, but the girls and women who live there are just like you. Or just like your daughter, sister or mother. And it’s time we treat them as such.

It’s almost my birthday. And to celebrate, I am opening up my wallet and matching $1 for $1 up to $35k, for donations made to my charity Unicorn Island Fund (@unicornisland).

100% of the money raised will go directly towards funding community-based organizations (CBOs) that empower girls and women in India, in the following ways:

💜 Providing access to education
💜 Providing school uniforms, sports equipment, school supplies, medical coverage and meals for girls
💜 Teaching girls important life skills such as hygiene, sexual safety, confidence and public speaking
💜 Preventing girls from child marriage
💜 Preventing violence against girls and women

In other words, 100% of the money raised will go towards helping girls and women live a life filled with opportunities, not barriers.

You can donate from anywhere in the world, right here on this post on IG or go to unicornisland.com (link in bio). And just like last year, we’ll be announcing our grants with the total money raised on Day of the Girl, October 11.

Any amount helps! And if you’re not able to financially support, we could use your help by way of sharing this. Thank you for being part of this important mission that is so dear to my heart.

Now, let’s do some good!

PS: You might see Social Impact Fund as the name of the nonprofit for donations. If you do, that’s great – you’re in the right spot! Unicorn Island Fund is a sponsored program of the Social Impact Fund, a 501c3 charitable organization. 100% of donations made to Social Impact Fund go to Unicorn Island Fund.

Lilly Singh Instagram – When it comes to supporting girls and women, I’m a huge nerd 🤓❤️

I had a lovely time in India with @unicornisland. And as a result, I’m dedicating myself to two ideas:

1. That I will be a student for life: Because issues like gender inequality are so complex, chances are I’ll never to be able say, “I completely understand this and know how to tackle it.” And that can feel very uncomfortable and discouraging. However, I’m deciding to meet that reality with student energy. If it’s complex, I’ll keep learning. If I fail, I’ll try another method. And if things change, I’ll update my education. Sometimes people will purposely try to corner me into a tough question, and I want to make it clear that I have no issues in saying, “I don’t know,” because I do know I’m willing to do the work to figure it out. This work isn’t about ego, it’s about making progress.

2. Build a legacy: I’m not naive enough or lacking enough self-awareness to say that I won’t have superficial goals. I absolutely want the films, awards and vacation goals. I’m human. But, I’m dedicated to spending a meaningful amount of my time, energy and resources into legacy building. And I want my legacy to be helping girls and women live their lives based on their own terms. Because if I can help educate a girl, the impact of that will ripple through time and generations, even when I’m gone. That is priceless, timeless and limitless, in a way that is unlike any other goal I’ve ever accomplished.

Having said the above, last year for my birthday, I did a fundraiser for my charity @unicornisland to raise money for girls and women in India. I’m deciding to make it an annual thing. This year, it starts in two days, on Sept 19th. Stay tuned for more ❤️

Thanks for letting me nerd out! And thank you India for always giving me such insight, love and just… life. 🙏🏽

Shoutouts @saulopez for the amazing footage ❤️
