On Thursday, July 13th, my mother, Carlin Glynn Masterson, passed away. I was with her. I will always be grateful for those last moments, no matter how hard. Death is like birth in the oddest way. From my first breath to her last. This thread is as fragile as it is strong. She was the most graceful clumsy person you would ever meet. Strong, smart, silly, intuitive, kind, generous, passionate and a deep listener. She was devoted to my father and to the enormous circle of students and collaborators who were considered her chosen family. The stanza is from Seamus Heaney’s poem, Clearances. The last photo is from her 80th birthday party, before the worst of dementia and cancer took their toll. She never lost her sense of joy or wonder. The silly guy pictured with her is my dear brother @seppisigh Rest in peace, mommy.

With the help of @didibarrett106 and @michellehincheynysenate the NY State 2023 Budget that passed May 2nd will be a game changer for production upstate! The positive economic impact on distressed economies of the Hudson Valley will provide much needed opportunity and a bright future for our amazing professional crew and @stockade_works trainees! When we founded @stockade_works in 2016, and @upriverstudiosny in 2019, we were hoping to scale production in the Hudson Valley, 100 miles upriver from New York City. We wanted to create opportunity for our neighbors to live and work in this beautiful part of the world, while also enjoying meaningful and lucrative work. Since then, we have trained, and continue to mentor, over 270 (and growing) local residents (over 40% BIPoC, 60% female). We scaled the industry in the Hudson Valley, but our tax credit isn’t quite strong enough to compete with neighboring states’ programs anymore. Thanks to @govkathyhochul for getting the power of entertainment to generate massive revenue for New York State. Thanks to @michellehincheynysenate for leading the effort to ensure upstate gets the added incentive it needs to transform our local economies. This program creates more opportunity for New Yorkers than it “takes”.
