But we often forget that the wisdom of the redirect is equally valuable for us as adults and a tool we can all benefit from when things get tough. Our children’s nervous systems depends on us. We can not expect them to find their center when we are not rooted in ours. In a recent post I wrote about the mindset we bring to parenthood and how we can choose to approach the experience. It can be easier said than done. These are some of the ways I redirect my mood: ✨ Living room dance party (Lou loves this one) ✨ Getting in nature or just stepping outside for fresh air. ✨ Getting together with girlfriends. This one really makes a world of a difference for me. Parenting in community is how it’s meant to be. ✨ Getting out of the house to change things up. ✨ Dropping my expectations and obligations for the day and accept that productivity looks very different these days. ✨ Physical activity that gets my heart rate up ✨ Eye gazing with my babe and making her laugh ✨ A warm bath with @candthemoon scrub down and glow oil massage. ✨ Leaning on my partner to help me co-regulate ✨ @thefullestco saffron latte What’s your go-to mama redirect?

What’s your go-to mama redirect? | Posted on 25/Aug/2023 20:15:34

Carson Meyer Instagram – It’s Labor Day! Here’s a photo of me the day I went into labor. I was 40 weeks + 2 days along, feeling ready and impatient AF! Little did I know that I’d be in labor within a matter of hours and holding my girl in my arms by sundown the next day.

Expecting mamas who are eager to get labor started often ask what they can do to “naturally” get things going at home. Sure, there’s a laundry list of things one can try, but I’d invite you to ask yourself: Why the rush? Where is this pressure coming from? What might you gain from letting things unfold and trusting that your baby will let you know when he or she is ready?

Many people don’t realize that the hormones that start labor are actually initiated by a protein released by the baby when ready for life outside the womb.

Straddling the space between two worlds is not always easy but it is an opportunity to sink deeper into the trust and patience we draw upon for birth and parenthood.

There are many ways in which I hope Lou takes after her namesake, starting with these perfectly manicured nails.
