I had all good intentions of a mild makeover of our @bmwmotorrad #R18 motorcycle but I got a little more crazy than expected. This is a gorgeous bike but to keep it within standards of the European laws there is a lot of extra stuff in there. I decided to convert it to an @morrismagneto and carburetors so the wiring can become almost non existent. This really opens up the under seat area and cleans everything up so it looks vintage. @coneeng mufflers look the part and are coming together quickly into a tidy little exhaust system. Hoping to put @beringerbrakes_usa on here they’re so gorgeous and I believe the front mounting is a common pattern which helps. @buchananspokes is lacing up the wheels with stock hubs so we can use the front end and rear drive system stock. I’m using @cokertireco 23” early reproductions to keep that vintage profile and size for the antique proportions most classic / modern interpretations lack. I’m really digging this machine and hope to have it ready for mock-up display @barbermuseum Vintage Festival coming up October 8-10 weekend! Don’t miss this one such a fun time we go every year. Really humbling and a blast that @chrisjacobs70 could join @pcannonfuller and our fun crew for the #ForgedbyFuller weekend! @chipfooseofficial @courtney_hansen , Chris and I met on the pilot episode of #overhaulin …under extreme pressure to finish a car in 7 days we became fast friends that has lasted for 23 years now. They taught me some tv hosting tips and tricks, gave advice and showed me the way. Bring in front of the camera can be nerve racking to get started but these three gave me confidence I could do it. Wish I could go back and relive that weekend in slow motion…but after a week off it’s back to work! Time to finish a couple of projects that are pretty close. I really respect @ianfrombigtiregarage as he can not only build bad ass Offroad vehicles but host a show welding and fabricating pretty much by himself (with an awesome production team telling him to not do everything himself!) Ian and I have always had good chemistry hanging at trade and car events despite his bad taste in welding machine color. We also have in common previously using urethane clear coat to spike our hair before the #semashow as is customary tradition. It was an honor to have him make the trek to Atlanta and the #ForgedbyFuller weekend opening. Thank you my friend.
Our #FactoryFive #Cobra interior is all prefabbed and ready to go to @rockfordcustompaint to squirt some blue on it! This was a #design challenge to build something unique with so many thousands built over the past 60 years, but again I think we pulled it off. We wanted to keep the raw fabricated feel but soften up the passenger area. If you’ve ever been in one of these it’s knarly and not a luxury ride to say the least. Padding the dash sets this one apart along with exposed hinges, custom fabricated seats, and that gorgeous @mooreandgiles leather. Great job by the entire team on this one. Another fun week with @thehotrodshopms @matt_allegretti and the entire @brenton_tv crew filming another episode of Car Fix this week! We built a roll pan for our #s10 #pickuptruck #fabricated from scratch out of 18 gauge steel sheet. Also to keep it cool we installed the hugely upgraded new @vintageair_ AC unit behind the dash keeping the firewall smooth and clean the way it should be. Pumped with how the #BMWR18 project is coming along! Switching to the @smartcarb is going to work out great. We #cad modeled new intakes and have them #3dprinting right now out of aluminum. @beringerbrakes_usa billet calipers and hand controls fit right in and will work bad ass…not to mention the weight savings. @blue_moon_cycle had an original 1952 1953 R68 tank we are using…the front mounts even fit the 2022 #R18 model frame perfectly!!!! Stainless pipes are all welded up with our #lincolnelectric TIG machine and ready for a test fire once the intakes show up! Can’t wait to hear how this beast sounds through those #coneeng muffs! Hard but gratifying work in the #bodyshop this week! These surfaces are long and complicated so it takes a bit to get them all perfect. I’ve painted on and off since a kid but it’s easy to forget how much is involved till you get in there everyday. That being said it’s nice to take a break from the phone and metal to perfect a surface into its ideal shape. Turn on the tunes and get down to business. It’s also a great workout my arms hurt, back is a little pissed, and shoulders got a great pump. I’m very impressed with the #evercoat fillers, glaze, and primers we use. Also if you haven’t tried #indasaabrasives and masking check them as well. Great products for this work no doubt. If you’re having trouble finding a painter, don’t be afraid. This work can be done on a budget and it’s very rewarding. We had some really Bitchin brakes show up today! If you don’t know @beringer_brakes_official then you haven’t followed the high end #custommotorcycle world too closely. They’re a small company supplying kit airplanes and bikes with #CNCmachined and anodized perfection! Luckily the #bmwr18 has a common front bolt pattern so it’s easy to get a caliper to fit. They have a special order rear option too we’ll be able to bolt on as well when they show up from the factory in France. Yowsa! #beringerbrakes #bmwridersassociation #bmwr9t #bmw
