They said “fall like a pencil.” I thought “what if the pencil is floppy and scared?” Good scenes with the @latticetraining crew down on the South Coast… I’ve never done this before as I’m a total chicken about the water, but having spent the last week in Welsh lakes/rivers getting cold, my keenness was just enough 😄. Feels like a whole other ‘type’ of climbing that there must be a huge improvement curve for. Thought it might be like soloing, but it’s genuinely ok to fall. Thought it might be like sport climbing but it’s hard to work moves. Thought it might be like trad, but it’s too fast paced 😂 Thanks @remuscrimp for the slo-mo footage 🎥 #dws #dorsetcoast
I always say I’ll only do one offwidth a year, but this one up at the End of The Flare area in Orco Valley was too good to not break a little rule and maybe a little skin 😅 Really cool bit of stacking and knee locking which works even better when you use a knee pad! Me, @mariaugustahs & @petewhittaker01 had one of those satisfying ’triple tick’ days where you all get turns to watch / get inspired by the other people’s misery 😂. Considering that we’ve still got Utah desert action next month, I feel like The Wide could go a little further this year… 😈 Thanks to @mauriziooviglia for helping us out last minute with some guidebook advice as we completely failed to come on the trip with any topos, books or app downloads. Sometimes I wonder how e we get anything done? Video: by Pete 🎥 @wildcountry_official @rab.equipment @unparallelup @mytendon @valle_orco_climbing_festival
Good to have a sesh in the cellar again after a good 4 months off the cracks. It’s actually quite surprising how with this particular style of climbing (as opposed to crimping) that ‘time off’ seems to have really significant benefits. Me and @petewhittaker01 have often noticed over the years how after having a big break from the cellar we quickly return to PBs despite thinking the opposite. My feeling is that it is down to the cellar being more like replica training rather than standard variation in exercise. With replicas I find blocks of up to maybe 16 weeks are ok, but really it’s good to then have some time off after that. Refresh and come back. Seems really worth thinking about considering the number of people using replicas these days (they’re v effective!!) and their general popularity growing. This section is the easy version of the crux of the 9a project we tried for a whole winter and never got done in the end 🙈. Prob at least an O-7?! 😄 Cheers @unparallelup for making flippin’ excellent crack shoes. Best brand in the world in my view for that… UP Rise Pro, Mocc & Duel all have their place 🙌
Another desert trip 🌵, another project commences with this little pumper @petewhittaker01 Whatever happens I know he can cradle like the best of the best and no fingers will be left unhurt 😅 Thanks to @wildcountry_official for supporting this trip and @tradprincess for providing a roof for 2 Wideboyz. As usual, there will be some video/film releases over on @wide_boyz for zee true Crackheads out there. @mason_earle – LEGEND. Your desert FAs still delivering delights and body destroying pumps to this day 🙌🙌🙌 @rab.equipment @mytendon @unparallelup @rhinoskinsolutions

Big thanks to @mytendon for hosting me on a trip to Adršpach, Czech Republic, which is home to these absolutely incredible sandstone towers that generally seem a bit sketchy as you have to climb them with knots, slings and ring bolts a million miles apart 😅 In reality though, it’s one of those things that is genuinely really good fun IF you set the level somewhere around 2-3 grades above your solo level. The gear takes quite a bit of time place, you don’t use chalk and there’s a few snappy holds here and there that keep you on your toes. I guess you could try stuff close to your limit, but for most it’ll just end up being a bit epic and not fun? I’ve been here a few times now and each visit gets a bit better at finding the sweet spot. Also, the tower tops are worth every bit of effort and you want to be able to enjoy them… Another thing for the crackheads… I’d say this is one of the best offwidth destinations I’ve been to world wide?? There’s actually loads of entry level pitches and a number are on the slabby side so it feels a bit less like imminent death 😂. I weirdly missed @petewhittaker01 by a week on this trip so we never climbed together… but…. there is still some stuff coming out on the @wide_boyz YouTube channel soon!! Photos by: @haracjan 📸

Getting proper psyched for the next desert trip with @petewhittaker01 this Autumn… hopefully see some of you crackheads out at the crags!!💪💪 If anyone knows of any good (open) projects do let us know as we always like a little something new – no more than 1 offwidth though as that’s our max capacity per year 😂😂 We’ll be doing some filming with @tradprincess & @wide_boyz so there will be some general thrashing and fighting going out at some point! The rope gun @mariaugustahs is also out so prob some more beastliness on that front too 😈 Photo by @spencermckaay – THE guy to work with 🙌🙌😉
The full Adam Ondra x Wideboyz cellar video is premiering tonight on the @wide_boyz YouTube channel at 7pm UK time. Thanks for waiting for this one folks… I know it’s been a while! 😅 There will be some live chat on the YT channel and you can let us know how you’re all getting on with the best grading system out there… the O-Grade 😄. We got him on the Century simulator, the pleasure loop, the big 9a link Proj and more… A total pleasure getting to see the master in action. More than his obvious ability for hard climbing, was his undying passion for ANY form of it that came through. Thanks @adam.ondra and team for making this happen 🙏
Many thanks to @wildcountry_official & @valle_orco_climbing_festival for hosting me, Pete, Mari & Talo this past week. This festival is the one thing on the European circuit that I look forward to more than most as it’s so flippin’ good! Yes it’s well run, yes it’s a weekend of long nights and dancing, but most importantly it’s set in Orco Valley which is home to some of the best trad climbing and cracks in Europe. Me and Pete came here a lot from 2007-2012 as there were so many FAs to do, but really we barely scratched the surface. Nowadays there are 8a’s all over the place and classics like Greenspit are rivalled by many others just as good eg some of the new stuff by @jacopolarcher 🙌 Also a big shout to the Wild Country brand and family of staff who’ve supported me and Pete for going on 15yrs. It’s always been fun, the kit is amazing and they’re fully psyched. The @wide_boyz Crack Schools we did this past weekend were yet another thing they were cool to help make happen. Finally – Le Fonti Refugio. Legends!!! This festival is a massive amount of work and it couldn’t be what it is without them. @petewhittaker01 @mariaugustahs @talomartin @technotanaro @talomartin @rifugiolefontiminerali

Some routes are just plain awkward!! Whatever you do, it’s a bit of a struggle barge 🙈. Tor Line in Bohuslän, is one of THE classic roof cracks of the area so I was pretty keen to do it, but man, I had to use way more knee than I wanted 😅. The jams are good (who on earth said it was thin hands?!) but it’s about as bunched up as you can get at the lip. Great route though and you feel like you ‘deserve’ the grade. Any other awkward no matter what you do routes?? Nectar? The Dangler? The Harding Slot? I’ve lost skin on all of those for sure 🤣 Photo by @philippklein 📸
So grateful and excited that Hope has been selected for @kendalmountainfestival this year! As a newbie filmmaker, having my work chosen for anything feels pretty surreal. I (Anna) have recently been pushing really hard with both my climbing and my filmmaking; Hope was the beautiful moment where my passions merged 🥹 The film documents me and @tompaulrandall on our quest to climb Prinzip Hoffnung, a beautiful and notoriously run out slab trad test piece in Austria. With my filmmaking, I’ve always felt it’s important to portray an authentic, vulnerable story, and this film was no exception. I recently did an interview where the questions prompted me to advocate for more adventure films featuring women, but for me, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I would ALSO love to see more women— and BIPOC women— BEHIND the scenes, taking the videos, sharing their perspectives, sitting in the directors chair. Stories like Hope aren’t often told by someone who looks like me. My filmmaking journey started with a shitty little vlog video that I edited with the iMovie app on my phone 3 years ago, when I had the audacity to believe that my story was worth telling. Thanks @tompaulrandall for joining me in Austria and entrusting me with this story 🐥 thank you @philippklein for gorgeous videography and photography, and @rab.equipment for believing I could do it all and sponsoring the project. Additional thank you’s go to @roeschen3333 @lukas1309 @austreenc @emile166 @britrockfilms and @lauravrandall for belays, send footy, and editing advice. 🍂 ‘Hope’ is available to watch as part of the ‘Climb Blue’ film collection at this year’s Kendal Mountain Festival 🧗♀️ Friday 17th November at 12:00pm – Brewery Arts Centre. 🧗♀️ Saturday 18th November at 5:00pm – Brewery Arts Centre.
