My podcast was a way of sharing what I’ve learned about life with the hope of helping others navigate their way through similar situations. But what I’ve gone through over the past few years is simply not safe to share so candidly in today’s culture or climate. I’ve felt suppressed in my silence but making these videos allows me to express myself in a more abstract way that’s open for interpretation. So, while I will not go into the specifics regarding the inspiration behind this video, I will simply say it’s about letting go of all the obstacles, constraints, and variables holding me back in life so I can go back to being who I am without any interference from the outside world. There’s a few reasons why I’ve been posting these videos lately – mostly because I couldn’t get tickets to the TaylorSwift tour and this is my not so subtle attempt to get noticed with the hope that may change. But I also know “my brand” dictates I post photos or videos of myself so, I managed to find a creative way to cater to that while curtailing how vain that feels and how uncomfortable it makes me. In the process though, I’ve found an outlet that satisfies my desire to story-tell and create, specifically through the art of music, which has always been the source of inspiration for my artistic expression. The story every little girl is told is that “one day your prince will come” and just like sleeping beauty you’ll wake from your slumber to find your happily ever after. But every relationship I found myself waking to resulted in my saving my partner instead. I pressed on, over and over again with hope distracting me from the ever steeper climb, only to find myself continually pushing my needs aside to appease someone else. I prioritized them, lifted them up, and helped them fly. Yet, every time I found myself being left behind. Navigating my way through this kind of world was dizzying, exhausting, and incredibly soul crushing. It was hard to see the forest for the trees (or as I used to say it “the forest through the tress”) until one day, I did… The entire video is 2:30, which had to be broken up into three sections in order to post without compromising the audio. This section focuses on the distortion of the journey, which often happens when we compare our dreams (or expectations) to reality.
