Dec 15. Do something to get fired the day before so you can stay home and binge the first three eps. Then ask for your job back and threaten to use some sweet reacher headbutt if they won’t give it to you.They will be scared so you’ll get it back. Then start laying the groundwork to get fired again in a week so you can stay home and watch episode 4. You’ll learn new fight moves by then so you’ll have fresh scare tactics to get your job back until the next episode airs. Season 2 will be worth the trouble, trust me.

I wanted them to write, “Reacher’s Side” on this so bad.
I put 4 1/2 miles on this old dirt road behind me. Felt so nice. I’ve always loved running in below freezing temps, which this run was. It was faster than my pace has been lately. I think the cold invigorated the time a bit. But at 6’3” 240lbs I’m not nearly as fast as I was prior to taking on Reacher. A role I’ve enjoyed adding size for. As a result of the growth I’ve had to really stretch the very weak self-love language and remind myself I can’t expect someone my size to be burning a 6 or 7 minute mile pace like I used to. I expect a lot of myself. So it’s hard to accept that. But if I didn’t, I’d somehow start to believe I’m a failure in some capacity and that would be a real travesty. Because the point of this kind of movement is that the very act of following through is the reward. Movement is the medicine. The quiet time with nature is the gift. There’s no race. Only a few brittle cornfields and the occasional cattle could testify to my belabored stride anyway. So what does it matter? I’m better off for doing it at all. We win when we struggle forward at a pace that’s challenging for our unique situation. Better not to compare. To others… or our past selves, I suppose. It’s so obvious I’m talking to myself. But sometimes I don’t run anymore cause they look different now. This one reminded me how good it is to meet ourselves where we are. Maybe someone out there needs to hear this? I don’t know. How’s that for random?

I mean who else can do color like @pashainktattoo ? I call this one, “The Crown of Life.” A reminder to me that in order to find life we have to put to rest the things trying to take it from us. When we’re still under the spell of our vice (you can fill in the blank with yours) at first, we tell ourselves we’ll be more miserable without it. Take alcohol for example, I gave it up because @catritchson did. I couldn’t wait for sober October to be over so we could have some wine again. And boy do I make a mean Key Lime Martini 🤣 Over time, I realized she was much more serious about her commitment to be free of alcohol and its many compulsions than I was. I had to reckon with not drinking again. I said out loud more than once, I feel like we’re going to miss out on some memories. Five years sober and I see that from this side of time, from this side of putting alcohol 6 feet under, I’ve experienced far more color than I ever imagined possible. I don’t feel like I’m missing out and I don’t mind at all not needing recovery days from it. The world is anything but bleak or black and white without drinking. (Hats off to @catritchson for guiding me towards that truth). This is just one tiny example of what I think of when I see this new tat. I want to get more comfortable with the idea of death and giving to it. The color that waits on the other side is worth the pain of purposefully filling our daily metaphorical casket. It’s worth mentioning, the price is always lower when we do this work willingly. Don’t wait until life tires and makes the decision for you. Those bills are always stomach churning when they come due.
