I’m fortunate in my life that moments of awe & wonder tend to happen rather frequently and I find lots of excitement in each of them… but sometimes the deeper meaning comes later upon reflection that inevitably happens this time of year for me.
Here are a few of those of moments from 2023, the only thing better than the experience is getting to share it with others real time or in the form of photography… something that continues to be special every year that passes by. #NatGeoPOY23

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Ok I admit it.. we go over the top with Santa content. What can I say…? It’s the best time of year and nothing makes me happier than thinking of my two boys sleeping tight dreaming of Santa lugging these gifts across the world.
Merry Christmas friends
Summer is a long long ways away…
A small 35mm point & shoot often accompanies me on most of my expeditions for those intimate moments that I want to remember… and sometimes those turn out to be my favorite images…. Got thousands of em stored away. Over the fall during an incredible ride with @maap.cc in the highlands, I didn’t have room for much else in my bags so these are my analog memories from a couple of rolls. Reminds of how it used to be when I first started photography, can’t immediately see your shot and you hope the settings line up with a bit of nerves before you see the scans. Now it’s a memory bank for me whether it’s on the bike or a special day with my boys.

In this immensely glaciated landscape we humans are restored to our appropriate size
This is what draws me emotionally and physically to this landscape. There is no conquering of Icelandic nature despite how hard people try. It will always cut you down and at times bring a person to an extremely humbled state. I’ve felt it many times myself and over the years I’ve been lucky to bring over many of my favorite athletes to experience it, photographers both professional and amateur and now I aspire to show that to my kids. It’s in these reminders that we recognize just how we, humans, fit delicately into a very small part of the world around us.

It doesn’t always have to be larger than life, epic or even mind blowing. Sometimes it can be subtle, quiet or even personal- that’s often when Nature teaches us most.
What’s in my bag?
There’s been a ton of innovation & development in camera tech in the last few years – so I thought I’d do a updated series on YouTube running through key pieces I’m rarely without on shoots these days… Kicking off the series is one of my classic favorites – the @sonyalpha FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II Full-Frame Zoom lens. A tool of the trade I’ve used heavily and always have with me. Watch the full YouTube review at the link in my bio

My favorite cities are the ones that find creative ways to incorporate themes of nature & give you room to breathe amongst interesting architecture. Reykjavik just so happens to be my favorite with all of the fun bike trails, murals, & lighthouses all surrounded by beautiful mountains best seen in golden sunlight. It’s a common day to jump on the @ubcobikes and zip down to my gallery to chat with friends and get a little fresh air during these short winter days… definitely a place I’m happy to call home.
When the house is warm and only a few miles away but you decided to see what it feels to get snow straight in your eyes and set up a tent in hellacious wind for a crappy nights sleep. That is what it means to still be a kid to me. All the modern niceties won’t make up for these experiences.
