If you embrace the chaos found in the fringes of your creativity… you may be surprised at what you find there. For me, it was discovering an unexpected story that eventually became Under An Arctic Sky – a film I never intended to make but when the story started to unfold in front of me, I knew it was one I couldn’t ignore. Creatives & business owners will usually find that the path is a little more lonely than you think, filled with projects & tasks that you are solely responsible for, often difficult to maintain… but when the call of creativity beckons it’s one I feel is essential to follow. These are a few still photography moments from the film – You can watch Under An Arctic Sky on Redbull TV

The over/under shot is a classic in surf & underwater photography, not an easy one to accomplish but provides a “through the looking glass” sort of perspective I think is important when contextualizing a sport or landscape that extends beneath the surface. Having spent countless hours lugging a housing around the world and taking my fair share of waves to the head for an angle I wanted – I always appreciate how much skill goes into to pulling off these kinds of images. This particular trip – Mallorca 2018, I wanted to show off both ends of deep water soloing, both the ascent & swim after that make the sport both unique but beautiful to capture & I felt that the over/under was the best approach.
At 2:30 am this morning I jumped into the freezing Arctic Ocean at the harbor in Isafjordur Iceland. It was the final step to completing the 600 mile Westfjords Way bikepacking route. After helping create the route a few years ago I have been dreaming of coming back to see how fast I could ride the entire thing- a mountainous, rough circumnavigation of the fjords. I completed my ITT ( Individual time trial) in 55 hours. I found rain, mud, headwind, tailwind, terrifying fog, waffles, steep climbs rough descents, sheep shit and a classic tummy ache after during my 600 mile ride. My body hurts a bit but oddly enough these moments here are the ones I remember most. The midnight sun was unlike anything I’ve witnessed when it showed up for me. Takk for making it happen @ari.bikes @roka @schwalbetires @maap.cc @thefjordhub @visitwestfjords
The first assignments I ever had, were ones I gave to myself. At a certain point you have to accept that some things won’t make a return on investment. Down the road you might make a book or even sell a few prints or license an image… but honestly nothing will come close to making up for the time and money spent. So why do it? Because the experiences are worth it. The ability to see someone’s face light up when they see a photograph of a place they never thought existed. Part of a valuable lesson I’ve learned over the years that you have to be willing invest in your career. It took me a long time to learn this & actually apply it. Aerial photography has been one of those investments – Tons of time, energy and money was spent perfecting this craft before I felt willing share it.
Wondering what image inspired the @trtl travel pillow design? We felt the Aurora best represented a night to remember in hopes that everyone would be inspired to live a little more adventurously (and comfortably) while chasing their own dream. My buddies over at @fielderfilms somehow acquired some old airline seats and we were able to make the plane shot happen along with some lucid soaring at our local climbing gym with a giant green screen sheet rigged from above. Always takes a little creativity to see these projects come together but in the end it’s rewarding to collaborate in the creative process. If you’re ready to grab a travel pillow for yourself I’d highly recommend – more info in my profile to find the landing page. Thanks @jeffreybrundage for being such a good sport and hanging out in the harness for all that time.

This is the closest I’ve come to feeling like I was on another planet. Today we finished a 120 mile crossing of Vatnajokull glacier from East to West and paddling our pack rafts to the Ocean down the Skindadalsá river.
This trip has been a dream of mine for a few years. A Source to Sea experience where you follow water from the source to the Ocean.
I will be unpacking this one for a while.
Ever had to talk yourself into something? I had a pretty major pep talk with myself when I rode my bike into the harbor in Isafjordur at 2:30 AM and I knew I had to jump in. My body was destroyed and I could barely regulate my body temperature or eat food but there was nobody to blame but myself. I had helped make these rules with @tylerwacker and one of them was that the clock doesn’t stop until you get in the Arctic Ocean. I really am grateful for the opportunity to have this moment documented, the audio is priceless and I feel like the footage of the whole ride will give a peak into the beauty of the place and the challenge . @visitwestfjords @isleifureli @thefjordhub @ari.bikes @schwalbetires @roka @maap.cc
About two weeks ago I established an unsupported ITT on the Westfjords Way route – through some of the most beautiful (and challenging) weather and unique light you can find this time of year in the Westfjords. My friend @tylerwacker – the race director allowed me to bring along @isleifureli & @joelbarger_ to document the ride… intersecting me in several spots along the way to showcase what the route has to offer. Something I think is important to help spread awareness & hopefully inspire others to do it as well. Here’s a few moments captured from them, looking forward to sharing more from the ride. @ari.bikes @maap.cc @roka @schwalbetires
Here is my FULL Gear breakdown from the last week traversing west to east on the Vatnajökull glacier on skis & packrafting to the coast (a total of 120 miles combined). Feel free to ask any questions after watching the video !
