Chris Burkard Instagram – At 2:30 am this morning I jumped into the freezing Arctic Ocean at the harbor in Isafjordur Iceland. It was the final step to completing the 600 mile Westfjords Way bikepacking route. After helping create the route a few years ago I have been dreaming of coming back to see how fast I could ride the entire thing- a mountainous, rough circumnavigation of the fjords. I completed my ITT ( Individual time trial) in 55 hours. I found rain, mud, headwind, tailwind, terrifying fog, waffles, steep climbs rough descents, sheep shit and a classic tummy ache after during my 600 mile ride.
My body hurts a bit but oddly enough these moments here are the ones I remember most. The midnight sun was unlike anything I’ve witnessed when it showed up for me.
Takk for making it happen
