When 80% of the public wants a secure border and he may not give it to them, he’s at risk of not getting re-elected. Democrat Senators aren’t. They don’t have the same incentive to work with Republicans on this. That’s why we need to take our border security negotiations directly to the White House and make a deal. We need to change the policy — it’s not about just adding more CBP agents, or getting more money. You need to change the incentives of “catch and release” that draw immigrants in. These are common sense policies that would make meaningful impacts to our national security. I’ve been saying this for months: let’s get in and get this done.
