💡Enlightenment.💡The Disappearance of Shere Hite is an illuminating film that plumbs the depths of legend Shere Hite, the revolutionary and woefully misunderstood writer of The Hite Report. Gorgeously lensed by Rose Bush and exquisitely directed by @nicolenewnham, this biopic presents Shere’s inimitable perspective boldly, unapologetically. Archival footage is seamlessly spliced with contemporary interviews, and Shere’s own words voiced by @dakotajohnson lend the piece a glorious intimacy. I have not read The Hite Report. I did not know Shere existed before last night. Through a glass darkly indeed… In a world that grows increasingly unsure of itself, art remains the great mirror in which we can truly see ourselves: good, bad, ugly… and human. I am grateful for Shere’s body of work. Huh. Even *that* phrase feels fuller now. Thank you, Shere. Thank you, @ifcfilms. And thank you @tara_westwood: it was truly special to share this revelatory moment with a woman who inspires me beyond words. @impact_ig #sherehite #cliteracy #thehitereport

A bright and beautiful light has left us. When my mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer at age 46, Rosalynn Carter reached out to her personally with this lovely note and its lovelier sentiment. The Carters were dear friends, having worked closely with my late pediatrician grandfather, Dr. Judson Hawk. A true pioneer and an extraordinary champion for human rights, Rosalynn was peerless. Kind. Genuine. Prayers to her family and to President Carter as they mourn her loss. 🕯️
Lucky number 7. A study in contrasts: His bricks of anger build cathedrals of adoration. His loud leads to love. His nature is to nurture. Every fiber in his body buzzes with funny. (He has at least two funny bones). He is engaging. He is enraging. He is so musical that even his tantrums have rhythm and blues. He is chaos and care. He is storm and sun. He is rough and tumble and so soft and gentle. He loves to try new things, unless it’s food. Then it’s “not today, Satan.” He is a creator and a destroyer, both maker and monster. At 7 – some adult teeth peek through his gummy smile but the baby ones hold. The baby ones hold. I know it’s said that babies don’t keep, but I reject this notion. He shall forever be this little light of mine, my North Star, the love of my life. Happy 7th birthday, imp supreme.
