I was delighted to be involved in Irish Repertory Theatre and Fishamble: the New Play Company’s Transatlantic Commissions Program, a new endeavor that aims to address head-on the historical inequalities in representation that have existed in the Irish theatrical canon. Together, Fishamble and Irish Rep commissioned Kwaku Fortune, Jade Jordan, Felispeaks, and CN Smith to work under the mentorship of Obie Award-winning playwright and Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith to create new works that were presented as public readings in Dublin, New York, San Fransisco and at the Los Angeles Public Library in March 2023.

Wishing everyone around the world a happy St Patrick’s Day. I am beyond delighted to tell you about the enormous efforts of and ongoing mission of A Partnership with Africa. @apaapartnershipwithafrica is An organization that believes in the rights of all people to live with dignity and freedom. At APA we believe that it is an integral responsibility of people everywhere to value the common humanity which binds us all together and supports the wellness of one another. Be it supporting capacity building for civil society groups in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Ireland to Development Education and many other APA projects, we are making a difference. Together we can create and maintain sustainable support for vulnerable and marginalized people. Positive change can happen but we need your help. You are capable of making that difference in someone’s life. For more on our continued outreach and information on our efforts, to make a contribution or to get involved please visit us at APA.IE APA’s latest project to Promote Decent Work, Rights and Dignity for Domestic Workers (emPoWeRD) in Ethiopia & Tanzania is underway since September 2021. In partnership with Irish Aid, CVM and local partners, the project aims to increase the quality of life of local and migrant Domestic Workers (DWs), to promote dignity and confidence and to obtain decent work conditions for marginalised women. Domestic Workers in these and many other countries have a very high risk of discrimination and rights violations. This charity is very close to my heart especially as a proud ethiopian with dual Irish heritage. The humble but tenacious Father Owen… not only married my parents but was one of the first people to meet me soon after I was born 🤗 His dedication and that of his sister Marion to the empowerment of those without, is extraordinary and I am so privileged to be able to spotlight their and the many volunteers and contributors .
