Aisa nahi hai ki woh gaane acche nahi they, it was extremely foreign and unheard in terms of sound & composition.
Phir Waqt, Haalaat, aur Audience kya chaahti hai, yeh baat samjhe bina hi music banaoge toh obviously gaane nahi chalenge 😓
I asked other composers to hire me as an assistant all over again….
I was down and out & no one took me under their wing, & as for the media, they were all writing me off 💆🏻♂️
I felt my Hindi film career was over & done with, and the negative reviews surrounding my music & craft were gaining momentum.
It was written in fine print for one & all to see.
I remember this particular headline that broke me & cut deep.
‘Malik finishes last in this musical legacy of stalwarts; The musician lacks melody, creativity & the commercial music sense unlike his uncle & father.’
That trauma has never left me because I was judged, written off & forgotten; even before I was remembered for my music.
I thought to myself & questioned as to how do I go about being #ANewMalik & not Anu Malik’s nephew or @daboomalik ‘s son , just on my own merit.🤔🤯
I snapped out of this disturbed state of mind with great great difficulty, but when I did, I got #Matlabi in life.
I promised my self while creating this gem, that if #SoorajDoobaHai works well, I will give my blood,sweat & tears till the very last song of my career ♥️

#SoorajDoobaHai enters its 10th year 🥳
The song that didn’t let me quit my music career & took me on a journey from my studio room, right into your hearts.
A decade later, it doesn’t seem to have quit winning hearts & I’m truly proud to see that I could create atleast one such song that will be remembered as a song that defined my generation.
It defied rules & became the most undisputed song of 2015 when there were innumerable incredible soundtracks by industry stalwarts, beautifully roaring to keep the flag of Indian music right where it belongs 🇮🇳
But this baby of mine came in like a tornado to shake things up in almost every department 🌪️
– The sonics
– The lyric
– The 4 bar pre-chorus that becomes a 5 bar pre-chorus in the stanzas 🤔💭
It was totally my brainwave to get the biggest superstar of romantic songs, you know who 💆🏻♂️ to change gears & sing something he himself was quite unsure of singing, and only God knows why, literally !
He even suggested a top singer of the time who he was personally gonna call and ask to sing this one for me…Whatta guy !
I was adamant & very sure that it’s either this voice or no one.
The label & the producers were really stressed that I was delaying the shoot mix, hence I sang it in my voice and sent it for shoot, it took time but a few months later the singer agreed….Phew !
In came @arijitsingh with the most sweep you off your feet kinda powerful and wholesome singing, filled with subtle undertones of romance along with his sparring partner who took the challenge head on with her mighty vocals; @adtsinghsharma owned this one & how ⭐️♥️
The journey of #SoorajDoobaHai –
After the debacle of my work in my debut film I sat at home for a year, went back to pursue M.com at Mumbai University as the reviews and paid/unpaid PR to write me off were in full swing.
2 major publications tore me apart and called me a misfit and titled the article not a chip of the old block post the failure of my first song from the mammoth #JaiHo
I caved in at 23 & I started to fade into oblivion 😞

Today when I look back & look forward from this heady mix of success that’s happening in the present scenario,I am left totally speechless & grateful for the love that the audience, my listeners ,my fan family of #Amaalians have bestowed upon me & my music 🥰
10 years of being a composer and I strive to leave behind a footprint of pure original music in an industry that doesn’t respect choices, suggestions and surely no opinions from a MUSICIAN.

I feel making music in our industry comes with so much disrespect (from the inside in terms of pay and timings) & mud slinging from the outside(media) that one can eventually be lost,helpless & feel frustrated specially when we are taking baby steps towards our goal.

This New-Age Electronic Surge that @abhijitvaghani beautifully sculpted through his genius music production skills was rejected 30 40 times before it became a part of every damn playlist in the world and what many dunno is the fact that it played a very important role in the movie and its narrative.
That movie was #Roy….
