The hatred directed toward blackness has a history so deep, so pervasive that no continent, no culture, no community has been spared. When I was a young kid growing up in all white Australia, I hated the colour of my skin, the shape of my nose, the texture of my hair. I remember being 9 years old, looking in the mirror and just wishing I looked “normal”. But my family loved black culture and celebrated the beauty and majesty of Africa. So where did I learn to hate myself? The answer is everywhere. The messaging that blackness is inherently inferior is a cacophonous bombardment that can be nothing short of crippling. The resolve, self love and pure grit it takes to not let that messaging be transformed into subconscious belief is Herculean. That is why we celebrate #blacksuccess with such unbridled zeal. We feel what it took to get there, and more importantly, its proof that little voice telling us ‘we aren’t enough’, the little voice that was put there by our culture, is WRONG. Please let it be wrong. The outpouring of grief that is spillin into the streets of America right now is a collective grief so deep that some of us dare not feel it for fear of being swallowed whole. Its a grief that lives in our DNA and sounds like a mother screaming for her new born child that’s been ripped away. When we see another black life consumed by the same system we feel daily trying to break us, the little voice smirks “I told you so”. I’ve been chocked, I’ve been shot, I’ve been erased. What I see happening right now is both beautiful and sickening. I see a pain that MUST finally be heard, and with the same stroke, I see an agenda intent on exploiting black suffering it yet another way. An agenda that seeks to divide humanity further, plunging us into a deeper state conflict. These protests started peacefully, often organised by black mothers, but the violence and ‘riots’ have been intentionally incited. Why? Because never let a good crisis go to waste. So, to my brothers and sisters, your pain is justified, your suffering is real and you deserve to be heard! *Continued in the comments*
Stop with the virtue-signally armchair activism. I’m old enough to remember last week when the same people wanting to ‘hear my voice’, were calling for my censorship because my views on the #OMFGVirus didn’t fit the narrative. If your opinion gets you a pat on the back, it probably ain’t rebellion. Real revolution is never popular in its time. Stay Vigilant, Stay United. Love each-other, question everything and don’t forget to laugh 😉
@omega_axsal Without any knowledge of history or politics, it would be safe to assume that the people who inhabit the countries like the DRC who supply 80% of the world’s Coltan used in the production of almost all electronic devices would be unfamiliar with poverty. The same assumption goes for many other African nations that sit on vast quantities of fuels, metals and minerals, but, the reality is, these people remain the most financially oppressed despite the glutinous wealth of the foreign multi-national corporations. For example, there are 26 countries with extreme poverty rates over 40%, and only two of them are outside the continent of Africa. Ironically most multi-national corporations all have their wealth rooted in these countries. This type extortionary business model isn’t new. Capitalism has been running long and strong to the point where the empathic part of western society saw the damaging effects of their privilege and created an entire industry called charity. Sadly, over time, the ideals of charity have become corrupted, the same legal loopholes that allowed for corporations to overpower entire governments and outsmart human rights laws, have crept in to a once altruistic space. Under the administration of the United Nations across the worlds crisis zones, have any of the nation’s risen out of poverty? If anything, the rate of poverty has risen in many nations. Did you know more than 3billion people, that’s nearly 50% of the world’s population live on less than $2.50 a day. Over 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty on less than $1.25 a day. The most impoverished 40% of the world’s population, accounts for 5% of global income. The richest 20% accounts for three-quarters of world income. Having been on the ground in many of the places where the United Nations and other NGO’s operate, I myself share the opinion very similar to the peoples of the artificially impoverished nations, and that is, that Charity is the contemporary socially acceptable word for colonisation. There was no charity in Africa when it was colonised. Take the case of Ethiopia. Two decades ago there were 70 international charities operating there, continued….

If you haven’t seen @ava DuVernay’s #13th but think you understand what’s happening right now, please, stop, pull up Netflix, and watch with humility. This gut wrenching exposé on the history mass incarceration and policing in the #USA is just so important. I first watched it the week it was released back in 2016 and it BROKE ME. It also gave me so much pride just to know the sheer resilience of the black spirit. Even through all the pain, through all the rage, through all the intentional destruction, we shine, dance and sing like no other. We will not only survive, we will thrive. #blackliveshavealwaysmattered Drop a ⚡️so people see this important resource ✊🏿

Well that didn’t take long… I said it at the beginning of this and I’ll say it again. Instruments enacted for a ‘crisis’ never stay only applicable to the crisis. Through our justified rage and grief we have to stay vigilant 👁✊🏿
This book and all the work by @dr.joydegruy has point blank changed my life. She was the first person to articulate an experience that every black person I’ve ever met knows in their bones. It’s a pain that isn’t ours but lives inside of us. It’s a rage that’s so powerful we dare not share it for fear of it devouring us. My life growing up was beautiful and privileged. Yes I have my stories and wounds around race, we all do. But nothing that could ever explain what I felt in my gut. This books was the first time someone could explain to me what that feeling was and where it came from. Thank you @dr.joydegruy 🙏🏾✊🏿 To my white friends and fans: If you are choosing to do the important work of unpacking you’re own implicit bias and trying to understand your blind spots this book is mandatory reading. If you don’t read Dr. Joy has a number of great lectures and podcasts available on YouTube and wherever you get you’re podcasts. To my black friends and fans: if you haven’t read this book or know of Dr. Joys work, do yourself the kindness. It brought me so much peace and permission. I love you and see you all ❤️✊🏿 Drop a 🔥 so people see this important work 🙏🏾
This is why. To my white friends/followers… what we are asking of you is to care enough to do your work. Right now is such an incredible opportunity to heal generations of trauma and build a ‘new normal’ that’s anything but normal. And how we get there is up to YOU. What’s being asked of you is to care. Care more about Learning how to be anti-racist then you care about being ‘perceived as racist’. Yeah your gonna make mistakes and yeah people are gonna call you out on it, be grateful, that’s how we LEARN. I’m BLACK and I am STILL unpacking and understanding the depths of my own internalised systematic racism, trust me, YOU GOT WORK TO DO. To my black friends/followers – Never let this important work divide us into US vs THEM. Divided we all perish. Drop a 🔥 if you learnt something from this video. 👊🏾❤️Love you all🔥

With so much negativity being fist-fed to us from every angle I cannot recommend enough this beautiful, solutions based film that is both informative and uplifting. My home girl @rosariodawson narrates and it features an number of my personal heros. Punctuate the madness with a dose of positivity and watch #theneedtogrow 🌏🌱
