A 13 year old girl named Hope stands alone in front of a dolphin Abusement park in Panama City, Florida. She is hoping to influence a potential customer into changing their mind about buying a ticket. Hope is a champion, she represents great hope for the future. Hope shows up. She speaks out against the madness. She’s the real deal. Little miss Hope gives me more hope than the entire animal welfare industry combined. We support Hope. We support real animal rights activists and grassroots organizations. (Note to her parents: you are probably awesome too!) #dolphinproject #umahlumba #saynotothedolphinshow
October 22, 2023 Taiji: A courageous pod of Risso’s dolphins lost their lives after a very long battle with the hunters. We will update when more information and media becomes available. #DolphinProject #LifeInvestigationAgency
The CIA Once Wanted to Use Dolphins to Sink Enemy Ships: Back in 2019, the CIA released a trove of previously secret files that detail various undercover experiments, including the strange dolphin endeavor coined “Project OXYGAS.” The year was 1963. The CIA sent an agent to Miami Seaquarium to spy on me while I was training Flipper for the upcoming television series. The CIA wanted to know how it was possible to train dolphins to do the things they were seeing in the movies. Especially underwater. He tried to recruit me into their “dolphins of war program.” Wanted me to come to work for them at their “Undersea Warfare School” at Point Magu Navy Base, California. What he showed me was pretty bizarre, morally repugnant and ethically untenable. I passed on the job. Stayed with the Flipper TV series and Hugo the killer whale at Miami Seaquarium. The “Dolphin of War” program was transferred away from the CIA to the US Navy—civilian contractors actually. It’s a “black budget” project. The cash 💰 flows to the civilian contractors and the details are top secret. No accountability. We the taxpayers pick up the tab for this abusive, cruel program. 13 dolphins were sent into action in Vietnam to participate in a “harbor defense unit.” I don’t believe any of the dolphins returned home from the war. Merry Christmas y’all. Buckle up. 2024 is going to be a wild ride—and a very good year for the critters🐬
BREAKING: Wakayama District Court Judge rules in Life Investigation Agency’s favor. Huge victory! @Life_Investigation_Agency WAKAYAMA, Wakayama Prefecture, September 29, 2023: In a ruling by Wakayama District Court Judge Ayako Takahashi, a decision made by the Town of Taiji not to disclose information relating to the dolphin drive hunts, has been deemed illegal. On April 22, 2022, Ren Yabuki, Director of Life Investigation Agency, in conjunction with Dolphin Project filed a lawsuit against the Town of Taiji over the redaction of information from public documents related to the handling of cetaceans. The lawsuit sought access to all documentation connected to the drive hunts, including: sales contracts and invoices for live cetacean commerce documents related to the overseas export of live cetaceans complete inventories of cetaceans in possession of the Taiji Whale Museum documentation related to the dismantling of dead cetaceans by the Taiji Whale Museum, and inspection reports for the animals in possession by the Taiji Whale Museum This is a great victory for LIA’s work for cetaceans in Japan. We believe these documents will finally disprove Taiji’s claim that the hunts are all about culture and tradition, and instead, illustrate the truth that the hunts are undeniably, financially driven by the captivity industry. Some Very Good News from South Korea: “The aquarium’s in South Korea holding captive dolphins and whales are banned from purchasing new cetaceans for display” —Minister of Environment. The new South Korean policy governing marine mammal captivity will be enforced through a permitting system introduced by the Ministry of Environment earlier in the week. CONGRATULATIONS to all those who actually showed up and attended any of the protests in South Korea—especially HOT PINK DOLPHINS! Message to Earth Island Institute Board of Directors: Please do your job! What Causes Corruption? Corruption occurs because some individuals are willing to use illicit means to maximise personal or corporate gain. However, in order for these individuals to become involved in corrupt activity, circumstances must exist which do not prevent or discourage them from doing so. #exposecorruption

The best way to bring about change for the common good is by example. And that is exactly what Umah Lumba is all about: Lincoln O’Barry explains details of our model dolphin sanctuary in Bali, Indonesia to representatives of the Minister of Environment in Lisbon, and invited guests. The attending government officials, and theatre goers were very impressed! Lincoln and Dolphin Project, Indonesia Director, Femke den Hass created the sanctuary in West Bali National Park. A world first. The creation of a revolutionary, but simple, and effective healing component of the rehabilitation process is our “Foraging Pen. “More about this later. It’s predictable that other potential dolphin and whale sanctuaries will follow in the future, some are on the drawing boards now. (Advice to potential donors: Dolphin and whale sanctuaries must be run by honest people—especially the Treasurer) #umahlumba #dolphinproject
Happy Birthday to daddy’s little girl 🎉🎂🎁🎊🎈 🥳
Measurable Progress in Portugal 🇵🇹: Obrigado for inviting me to your beautiful country to help raise awareness regarding the captive dolphin situation in Portugal—Circuses are banned in Portugal yet the show goes on for captive dolphin—(what’s that about?) The Portuguese activist are the engine of change, I’m just a spark plug. The local campaign to improve the living conditions for the 35 captive dolphins is finally getting a lot of attention, thanks to a great many local activists who have been campaigning for years, especially animal rights activist, Fernando Roneberg and @EmptyTheTanksPortugal — The awareness event was organized by Dr. Laurentina Pedrosa, a highly respected, independent veterinarian who is appointed by the Minister of Environment to study animal related issues and make recommendations directly to the Ministry. This body of work has been accomplished. The Portuguese media coverage during our Awareness Campaign was massive, and extremely helpful. (Thank you national media for telling it like it is.) The truth about preforming circus dolphins in Portugal is finally being talked about. We reached the entire country in less than a week thanks to Dr. Pedrosa’s successful event. New ideas and recommendations have been submitted and now we wait for results. I believe change for the common good is coming to Portugal 🇵🇹 There is more work to do, and the Portuguese people are ready, able and willing. Viva Portugal! Obrigado, – Ric O’Barry DolphinProject.com
Coco the green sea turtle is a long-term patient at the Umah Lumba hospital. 🌊🐢 She was found with severe wounds to her head (consistent with a boat propellor strike) on Lovina Beach in Bali. The Dolphin Project team in Indonesia transported her to the Umah Lumba Center, and she began to heal, but the rehabilitation process for an injured turtle takes time. She has come a very long way, and we are hopeful Coco will continue to heal. She is still a a very young turtle! One way you can help her and other turtle rescues is by symbolically adopting a turtle at: bit.ly/UmahLumba 🐢🐬 #DolphinProject #UmahLumba
Another great read from Susan Casey. #susancasey
Symbolic adoptions are one way to help the Umah Lumba Center to be ready for rescues at any time: https://bit.ly/UmahLumba (🔗 in our bio) All symbolic animal adoptions will receive a personalized e-certificate, and digital adoption package. Be sure to let us know the recipient’s name if your adoption is a gift! 🐬🐢🐒 The Umah Lumba Rehabilitation, Release and Retirement Center is the first and only permanent dolphin rehabilitation, release and retirement facility for formerly performing dolphins. Our specially-trained local team is also equipped to aid other local animals; operating a dedicated turtle hospital at the Center, as well as rehabilitation and release for endangered long-tailed macaques. Your support has helped make all this possible! ❤️ A generous supporter has offered to match donations this holiday season, up to $50,000. Starting on #GivingTuesday (Nov. 28th), every donation (including symbolic adoptions) Dolphin Project receives will be matched dollar for dollar, through December 31, 2023.
