Christina Pascucci Instagram – The border is chaos. It’s undeniable. I saw it firsthand during my visit. It’s a U.S. policy crisis, and our response must start earlier in the migration process.

Word spreads on social media to migrants worldwide, that coming to the U.S. is easier if done illegally. They know if they show up at the border, claiming asylum, they can get processed within a few days and allowed inside the US while they wait for a court date. The system is so backlogged they won’t see a judge for years.

Those who choose the legal route face a longer, more confusing process involving multiple government agencies.

My plan, discussed in this video, lays out several key problems and solutions, as I see it. This is fluid.

One point that gets less attention than it should is that we must intervene earlier in the migration process. One example — support host communities that house migrants near their country of origin.

Barranquilla, Colombia has 150,000 Venezuelan migrants, or 10% of their population. We must help them integrate into that economy.

The migrants attempting to cross one dangerous Panama/Colombia crossing has increased 50 fold this year, and it’s a complete disaster.

We can do this, both for the safety of Americans, and for the dignity of those looking for a better life. | Posted on 30/Dec/2023 22:27:22
