Happy Birthday hot stuff. We’ve spent a lot of our friendship in cars, haven’t we?
The absolute BEST, most joyful, most life-affirming thing to come out of 2023. Once the bangs grow out a bit more (and I wash it) it really will be the perfect haircut.
Two years. 🖇️ 🌳 💓

Can’t quite believe it, but there we are… @theroosterfilm has been nominated for four @aacta awards! Four! Huge congratulations to our team who helped bring it together, and our community who inspired the film and gave us more support than we could have imagined possible. If you are an AACTA member we would love you to view and vote for us. 🗳️ We are up for Best Indie Film in the coolest category around. This was certainly an indie labour of love, and secretly I feel that this nomination is for all the portaloos I moved with @sayurickawamura and @catherinefarm whilst 8 weeks pregnant, and for all the meals our co-producer David Kelly cooked in between running back to his room to do the payroll, and all the second and third and sometimes fourth jobs @mahveenjoon had to take to work on this for the past few years she has been producing it with me. The dashing @phoenixraei is nominated for Best Lead Actor in Film, and he is sublime. A gentle, vulnerable, generous performance that is the beating heart of the film. He is a star. Hugo Weaving is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Film for one of the wildest and most magical performances of his that I’ve ever seen. It was as mesmerising to watch up close on set as it is in this final cut. And @ellenstanistreet is nominated for Best Costume Design in Film. Ellen created a lived-in, textured and completely believable ensemble for all of our characters all by herself with about $3 and her wits. She is so talented and brave. You want her on your team. Round Two voting to determine the @aacta winners for 2024 is open until 5pm Monday January 8th AEDT. 🐓 🏆

Lots of hours in libraries these day with my tiny human. My favourite places, my favourite little feet. ID: A threshold in a library. In the background, a computer and stacks of books, a stool. Disappearing off to left behind the wall, some little legs and the feet of a baby.

Last night, my friend Craig Barden won a Gold Award at the ACS Victoria/Tasmania awards for his work as cinematographer on our film, The Rooster. Craig shot the second season of Ms Fisher and quickly became one of my favourite people on set, always making space for me and the other actors, always striving for beauty even with our bonkers schedule, and always maintaining calm. He came onto The Rooster with endless enthusiasm and artistic integrity, and he helped us crew it in one of the busiest seasons Victoria had ever had with the most wonderful crew, who wanted to work with him because he is a great leader. They made every frame a work of art and I can’t wait for the world to see it soon. You deserve every award going Craig. Thank you x Beautiful portrait by another ridiculous talent, Sarah Enticknap. The other day I set up a donation portal to fund @doctorswithoutborders and their efforts supporting medical staff on the ground in Gaza, but also in Afghanistan post the triple earthquake, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and wherever else in the world medical help is currently needed. If you have any spare change I would love you to donate. It will be up here for a few weeks and you’ve already surpassed my expectation. Thank you. There are a number of other great charities doing great work in these places that you can support, I just have a personal connection to MSF as my Dad founded the Australian arm of it in 1994. I like their transparency about where the money goes and they never accept money from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, extraction industries (such as oil, natural gas, gold, or diamonds), tobacco companies, and arms manufacturers. If you can’t donate to a charity right now, you can write to your leaders to demand governments unblock supply chains, release hostages, allow humanitarian aid in to these areas and protect civilians. Or better still, do both. #CEASEFIRENOW ID: A white wall in a street in Gaza with the Médecins Sans Frontières logo painted on it and the Arabic translation underneath.
