Monday me’e: The incomparable Kumu Haunani-Kay Trask. Video from some time in the later 90s I think (maybe early 2000s) filmed at Kamakakū’okalani. “Where is it gonna go? I don’t know” I think that’s for our haumāna to decide. Because you, too, are a part of a historical moment. What are you going to do about that?
ʻOnipaʻan over the years 🖤✊🏾 today I’m Celebrating more than 131 years of resistance to American imperialism and white supremacist bullshit. Wishing everyone a powerful day of commemoration of the 131 anniversary of the illegal overthrow of our kingdom. Let us not forget that to resist American control here means we must resist American (and European) imperialism and militarism everywhere. Remember that when Kumu Haunani said “we are not American” she also spoke of the wrongful occupation of Palestine in the same breath. Remember that our ea is tied to their ea. that none of us are free until all of us are free.

Kumu Jon Osorio describing Duality / Pono & Wahine mana in the Hawaiian universe to POLS180: intro to Hawai’i politics at @uhmanoanews @uhmpolisci. It’s the greatest privilege of my life to teach beside this kumu— even if he is a boomer 🙃❤️
Monday mana’o: The moʻolelo is a mirror. Can you see yourself in the reflection of your Kūpuna? If you cant, keep looking. They are looking for you as desperately as you are looking for them ❤️. Tell more stories. Live more fully. 📸 @karaokecomputer July, 2019
Wahine crush weekend 🥰😍😘❤️

Monday mana’o: I’ve performed this poem more than any other poem I’ve ever written. It’s traveled across Hawai’i Pae ‘āina, to the four corners of turtle island, throughout Europe, and deep into the pacific. It has been my comfort blanket— my opening breath — my ho’okupu that ensures I never show up empty handed. And while it’s not my “best” written poem — it is certainly my most significant. Every time I have the privilege of saying these names, my kūpuna answer and join me upon the stage. And as they arrive I remember that I am never alone in this world— that I always stand beside my ancestors and before my future decedents. It is a gift of reflection and orientation. And I am grateful to never be without it. [the song my father is singing is entitled “Pule no me Ea” and was written by my father and his beloved friend and colleague Kanalu Young. The video is from the first ever “Ea Hawai’i field school” held at UH Maui College in the summer of 2017]
Constantly amazed by our daughter’s curiosity and intention. She seems to be led by a serious commitment to “order” and “organization”— its gonna be a wild wide showing her that the world couldn’t be further from that 😂. It’s been fun trying to find/ make up games that challenge and stimulate her. And even more amazing to watch her build the independence and confidence to entertain and challenger herself. She teaches me something new every day ❤️
My part of the Hōkūle’a moananuiākea (leg six) voyage was a bit tumultuous 😂. I Spent a few wonderful days on the wa’a and then spent 10 days in hotel isolation on salt spring island with covid. I ultimately ended up coming home early at the end of my isolation period. 🫣🫠 It certainly wasn’t the journey I was expecting or hoping for but it was certainly still a voyage on its own right. And it gave me a lot of time to myself to reflect and sit in quiet — which parents know isn’t really a luxury we can usually afford. So I’ll prob be spending the next few months are taking moments to continue to process what all this was meant to teach me.

Nightly truck top Kilo Hōkū with my favorite person in this galaxy. Spending quality time Building pilina and awareness with/to our environment and ourselves. “To kilo is not simply to observe, but to fold one’s ’Ike into space. Using all the senses, including the ones outside the so-called Big Five senses, one develops an intuitive sense of the ‘āina they kilo. This intimate knowing allows one to configure themselves into pilina and thus, kuleana.” – @keoni.rodriguez (My haumāna are so ‘eleu and elegant with language)

The @nytimes published an article today with the headline: “the decline of deaths in Gaza.” Apparently someone forgot to tell them that genocide is BAD. Come out this Sunday to march and stand with those who insist that every Palestinian life is precious. Stand with those who believe it is just to stand against our oppressors. Come and stand with us if you dream of a Palestine that is not only free of bombardment but also free of its occupiers. Free palestine. Ceasefire now. Death to the occupation— there, here, and everywhere 🖤 Mahalo to @ashluka for the artwork
Evening jam session with my main squeezes ❤️🌀.
One of my favorites from an earlier series entitled: “Things to say instead of I love you.” Written in 2019.
