Happy New Year to all. (the second pic reflecting that this is my first Hogmanay as the designated driver!)
Enjoying a couple of days at the brilliant Harrogate book festival with @quineofcrime and @profjosharp (Photo courtesy of @harrogatefestivals)
💔 My wonderful Uncle Iain known to many in the journalist world, passed away overnight. Iain was the editor of several Ayrshire papers in his younger days. He was later assistant editor at both the Daily Record & Sunday Mail and latterly head of PR at Ayr Racecourse. He also hosted a sports programme on West Sound radio. I hero-worshipped Iain when I was a wee girl and have looked up to him all my life. He and I shared a love of books and constantly texted each other recommendations. I will miss him so much. My love to Elaine, Emma, Lorna, his beloved grandkids, my mum and Uncle Scott.

Very excited to be doing this. I’ve always had an ambition to write. It is slightly bitter sweet today, though, as I head to the funeral of my uncle, the journalist Iain Ferguson. This is something that I always hoped we might work together on some day. Instead, it will be a book I dedicate to him
Rest in peace, Uncle Iain ❤️
Walking in a winter wonderland. Believe it or not, these pics were taken in the east end of Glasgow – which just goes to show that the beauty of our natural environment is never far away.

It was an absolute joy to interview @thebookerprizes winning author, Eleanor Catton, @edbookfest this evening. If you haven’t yet read The Luminaries (which won the Booker) or her latest novel, Birnam Wood, you should definitely do so 📚
Lovely walk up Corstorphine Hill earlier. Great views and a quick hello through the fence @edinburghzoo to a chilled looking zebra 🦓

Before going to see @poorthingsfilm I thought I’d re-read the novel. It takes less than a page to be reminded of the sheer genius of Alasdair Gray. There is some controversy around the setting and casting of the film, and I admit to being genuinely curious to see if/how they manage to separate the story from Glasgow without losing something of its essence. But, in my view, anything that brings the work of Gray to a wider audience is a good thing. I’m looking forward to seeing it – even if I can’t quite imagine enjoying it as much as the book.
📚My next read is this by Anne Enright, one of my favourite contemporary writers. It was a pleasure to meet her – and get her to sign my book – @edbookfest on Friday night. Thanks to @caoilinn_hughes for the second photo (also a pleasure to meet her)

I’ve loved Richard T Kelly’s previous novels and this new one seems right up my street. Looking forward to starting it tonight 📚

Late to this one by @gabriellezevin but the reviews have been so outstanding that I’m going to give it a go 📚 #bookstagram #books #booklover #reading
With apologies to any fellow 📚 lovers who might be slightly envious of this… There are many great things about being pals with @quineofcrime but sneak previews of her latest books is definitely one of them. (the only downside is the inevitable distraction from getting on with writing my own book)
For the 📚 lovers out there – I bought this after hearing @jocallaghankat on @quineofcrime New Blood panel @harrogatefestivals today. I am already engrossed. Highly recommended for anyone who loves quality crime fiction and/or interested in the application/limits of AI, and what is truly unique and special about being human.
📚 Looking forward to both of these by @tan.twan.eng and @louisedoughtyauthor respectively- just trying to decide which one to dive into first 📚 #bookstagram #books #booklover #reading
Enjoying this by @mazzom.peace – looking forward to speaking with her @beyondbordersscotland on Saturday
