A few drunk Sassenachs and some accomplished Scots getting to grips with traditional Scottish reeling –
namely The Gay Gordons and Strip the Willow – largely failing but having the hugest fun!
Happy Hogmanay / Happy New Year
And congratulations to Paul Mesher for your well deserved scholarship to the Royal Ballet 🩰😂

Throwback to the Rome Film Festival premiere of my doc ‘Posso Entrare? An Ode to Naples’ – what an amazing reception they gave it! Love this photo of @theofficialsting and me in the midst of all the photographers and journalists. Behind or in front of the camera, “Say formaggio”! #tbt

This week, I want to highlight the incredible female filmmakers that have been nominated for this year’s Golden Globes, Celine Song and Greta Gerwig! After last year’s Globes, where no women were nominated in the Best Director category, it’s wonderful to see these women getting the recognition they deserve.
Congratulations on your nominations, ladies! 👏🏻

Good news this week from our friends @superhumans.center in Lviv. A record number of amputees have now passed through their corridors and programmes of success, with flying colours. These brave warriors are among some of the first to complete their recovery programmes, following in the footsteps of other well-known names now associated with the Superhumans Center, Denys Kryvenka and Ruslana Danilkina who we’ve featured before in our previous posts. After months of rehabilitation and care at this state-of-the-art center, these Ukrainians are now fit and ready for discharge. Something to celebrate. Since opening last April the center has offered help to more than 1301 patients. Over 300 protheses have been made while 184 patients have received their newly fitted prosthetic limbs. It is an epic journey and return to new-normality for these Ukrainians who have endured so much. None of this would have been possible without the valiant and determined work of the co-founders of the @superhumans.center @stavnitser_andrey @rudnieva_olga @nzhook. @theofficialsting and I are looking forward to visiting Superhumans soon.

This week, I am thrilled to spotlight screenwriter and director @justine.triet, celebrating her Golden Globe wins for #AnatomyOfAFall! 🏆 From documenting protests to capturing the French presidential election to her first feature film Age of Panic, Justine’s filmmaking career spans from compelling documentaries to incredible storytelling.
Her latest project Anatomy of a Fall, won both Best Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes this year. The film weaves a riveting story around a celebrated writer named Sandra who is put on trial when her husband falls to his death from their secluded chalet, with her blind son as her sole witness. Sandra Huller delivers a captivating performance which is subtle yet complex and shows what a powerhouse she really is. The movie, hailed for its exploration of truth’s complexities, marks a significant achievement for the entire team. Congratulations on your monumental wins!

In 2023 we saw Barbie make history, but major film studios still favoured male directors, with only 16% of the top 250 films directed by women (down from 18% in 2022). While there were some small improvements in other areas, the gender gap remains significant. Swipe for more information!
