This #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, I’m spotlighting Sofía Subercaseaux (@sofiasubx), a brilliant editor from Santiago, Chile. Coming from a family immersed in the arts, Sofía explored different creative paths before discovering her passion for film editing while in school. Her breakthrough came while editing Sebastián Silva’s ‘Crystal Fairy and The Magical Cactus,’ a Sundance award-winning film, which cemented her love for shaping stories through the edit. Sofía’s most recent work, ‘Maria,’ directed by Pablo Larraín, is an intimate look into the final days of the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, portrayed by Angelina Jolie. Through her expert editing, Sofía brings nuance and depth to the film, skillfully blending time and reality to explore Maria’s haunting inner world. Don’t miss it!

Rachel made history for her role on Mudbound, becoming the first woman nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Having her hand at lensing features like Black Panther and Fruitvale Station, Rachel’s artistry shines with raw honesty and profound depth. Her latest film, The Fire Inside, tells the inspiring true story of Claressa Shields, the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing. The film follows Claressa’s journey from Flint, Michigan, to the top of her sport, with the support of her coach, Jason Crutchfield.
