Happy New Year’s Eve and Happy Hogmanay Wishing you all a healthy and peaceful 2025!
Congratulations @forestwhitaker @whitaker_peace for 12 years of ground breaking peace work. CEO and Founder of the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative, Forest Whitaker has inspired countless young men, women and children to find peaceful solutions and conflict reconciliation through the organisations innovative programming. At a recent fundraising Gala in New York, Forest said ‘My commitment to peace comes from recognising how interconnected we all are. What happens to you affects me – if not immediately, then eventually’. WPDI’s work is rooted in the belief that peace can be taught. It’s a skill – and its everyone’s responsibility. The organisation now spans 9 countries and has had a significant impact on the lives of millions of people, empowering the young and communities affected by conflict. Since 2012, WPDI has pioneered an innovative approach, mobilising young people to lead peace building lives and support development efforts within communities. South Sudan, Africa’s youngest country, after years of conflict is now striving towards peace and searching for a new way forward. WPDI has identified ways to communicate and break down barriers between communities and tribes, using sport, cinema and education projects as a successful way to broker peace and understanding. The Youth Peacemakers project has brought greater connection between countries and ethnic groups too. They successfully reach thousands of people over the course of a year through these successful conflict resolution education initiatives. Such an incredible organisation, created by a great hero of ours. For more information on this incredible organisation please see the link in the bio.

This #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, I’m spotlighting Sofía Subercaseaux (@sofiasubx), a brilliant editor from Santiago, Chile. Coming from a family immersed in the arts, Sofía explored different creative paths before discovering her passion for film editing while in school. Her breakthrough came while editing Sebastián Silva’s ‘Crystal Fairy and The Magical Cactus,’ a Sundance award-winning film, which cemented her love for shaping stories through the edit. Sofía’s most recent work, ‘Maria,’ directed by Pablo Larraín, is an intimate look into the final days of the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, portrayed by Angelina Jolie. Through her expert editing, Sofía brings nuance and depth to the film, skillfully blending time and reality to explore Maria’s haunting inner world. Don’t miss it!
This week for #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, I’m highlighting director and cinematographer Rachel Morrison for her feature directorial debut #TheFireInside. Rachel made history for her role on Mudbound, becoming the first woman nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Having her hand at lensing features like Black Panther and Fruitvale Station, Rachel’s artistry shines with raw honesty and profound depth. Her latest film, The Fire Inside, tells the inspiring true story of Claressa Shields, the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing. The film follows Claressa’s journey from Flint, Michigan, to the top of her sport, with the support of her coach, Jason Crutchfield. But even at the peak, she faces the harsh reality that the fight for her dreams is just beginning. Congratulations Rachel! Be sure to check out #TheFireInside in theatres now!
