I wanted to highlight today, an incredible all female team working in one of MSF’s @doctorswithoutborders maternity hospitals in rural Afghanistan. Reported by @msf_uk It has been described as “a hospital of women for women” delivering a staggering 80 to 100 babies a day. Against the backdrop of political upheaval and its consequences on the healthcare and economy babies continue to be born in Afghanistan daily. In rural areas and away from the big cities, most women do not have adequate access to essential obstetric care, and the situation is further exacerbated by a critical shortage of female midwives and doctors. In response, MSF first opened its specialised maternity hospital in Khost in 2012 to provide safe and free maternal and neonatal care to women and their babies. The medical team is almost entirely female and what they are managing to achieve, with very limited resources, is phenomenal. MSF is one of the largest employers of women in the province and out of 450 staff over half are women with jobs that range from doctors and midwives to cleaners and nannies. MSF has funded and trained the midwives working there, helping to build a sustainable system of care. By supporting @doctorswithoutborders / MSF general fund, they are able to provide longterm, sustainable medical units like this one. Please see the link in the bio to learn more about their work https://msf.org.uk/. #msf #doctorswithoutborders Photograph: MSF UK / a mother feeds her baby in the neonatal ward at the MSF Khost maternity hospital.

Rewilding: Bringing Nature Back! Today, I wanted to highlight @standmighty and their brilliant conservation work. Introduced to me last year by friend and fellow environmental campaigner @bengoldsmith, their mandate is to protect nature and fight climate change by driving transformation across industry and government. Mighty Earth works across the globe to protect the most vulnerable wildlife communities. This month, they’ve announced exciting news, whereby beavers, nature’s great engineers are being re introduced back into the British countryside to help restore habitats and manage water resources. The UK government’s recent decision to allow the return of beavers into river catchments, is paving the way for this native species to roam wild in British rivers and lakes once more, helping to create wetlands and increase biodiversity. Look out for them this Easter…! 💚🍃💚 Scientists are reinforcing the importance of reintroducing keystone species to restore balance to ecosystems. It can lead to a remarkable recovery of plant and animal life, proving that when nature has the chance to heal, it does so in extraordinary ways. This #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, I am highlighting Marianne Elliott (@zenpeacekeeper), a remarkable British theatre director and producer whose work has dazzled audiences on the West End and Broadway. With multiple Tony and Olivier Awards to her name, Marianne has brought iconic productions like War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time to life. Now, she takes her storytelling talents to the big screen with The Salt Path, a movie adaptation of Raynor Winn’s memoir. The film, starring @gilliana and @therealjasonisaacs, follows a couple’s incredible 630-mile journey along the South West Coast Path after facing homelessness and a terminal illness diagnosis. It’s a story of love, resilience, and the healing power of nature. I can’t wait for you all to experience this film, releasing in the UK on April 25th! This #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, I’m shining the spotlight on director, screenwriter, cinematographer, and producer extraordinaire Anna Boden for her new film #FreakyTales. Known for her work as part of a dynamic filmmaking duo with Ryan Fleck, Anna’s creative vision has given us films like Half Nelson, Sugar, and Captain Marvel—each filled with compelling characters and thought-provoking narratives. Her powerful collaborations with Ryan have carved out a distinct niche in the world of indie and blockbuster filmmaking alike. Anna’s journey began in Newton, Massachusetts, where she nurtured a love for movies, English literature, and photography. Her curiosity led her to study cinema and English at Columbia University, and it was there she discovered her true passion for filmmaking. It was during a summer filmmaking course at NYU that she met Ryan, and the two quickly began collaborating on their early projects. Together, they’ve made a mark in the industry with films that explore deeply human experiences and tackle complex issues with empathy and authenticity. Now, Anna is taking us on a new journey with her latest project Freaky Tales. This thrilling film blends dark comedy with mystery, following a group of interconnected characters in a quirky, yet compelling narrative. Freaky Tales promises to be another unique addition to Anna and Ryan’s impressive catalog. I can’t wait to see how this new venture unfolds!

@msf_uk 🔴 Myanmar Update: We have two teams in the areas most affected by the earthquake. Their primary focus is assessing the needs of the affected population and addressing logistical challenges, such as damage to key access routes and communications blackouts. MSF’s Medical Coordinator, Karan Kamble spoke to the BBC News on Sunday, providing insights into the extent of the disruption. Thanks to donations to MSF’s general funds, they’re able to move fast. For more information on how to help, please see the link in the bio.
