After over a decade of austerity we are seeing councils filing a section 114 notices. Meaning they are out of money to provide services.
Some people may say this is just because of mismanagement and while not all councils are well run the reality is councils overall have lost 40% of spending power and many have had up to 63% of their core funding from government cut since 2010. That’s £6 out of every £10 of core funding cut.
That means that every area of the work councils have to legally provide is at capacity, in that same time demand on social services (which local government is charged with providing) to its highest ever with 1.98 million requests filed
With an ageing population a reduced workforce and external costs rising councils are not only struggling to pay for care but to also recruit staff to provide that care at basic minimum standards.

This year when it is time to go to the polls for the general election. Who knows when that will happen? You will need some form of photo ID. That can be a passport, driving licence, a PASS card, a Blue Badge, a biometric or various other official identity card documents. You can find those on the governments website.
This has been supposedly introduced to reduce voter fraud. However between the years 2017 and 2022 there were only 9 convictions and 6 cautions. Despite there having been over 63 million votes in that time just in general elections. So they have changed the law based on a fraud rate of 0.00000142%
If you look at demographics who are less likely to have the photo identification they are also less likely to vote Tory. There could be as many as 3.5 million people without the require ID that’s 8% of the UK who will be barred from voting.

In 2017 Jacob Rees Mogg everyone’s fave said Brexit would reduce food, wine and clothing costs by 20%
It turns out Mogg was, suprise suprise, wrong. Food and beverage costs are up overall 26% with steady rises since 2017 and huge spike in inflationary prices since 2022.
Some of this has been down to Brexit but checks have been deferred 5 times to mitigate the associated costs to UK residents. They are now being implemented which will mean delays and refusals. if a shipment has multiple items and one item has not been properly described the whole shipment will be rejected. It will also mean import costs go up again which in a country that imports around 46% of its food this could be disastrous.

Since 2010 there has been huge amounts of assets sold by councils in order for them to be able to continue to provide essential services. Things like shopping centres, buildings, car parks. Schools have not been spared from these fire sales.
The department for education employed an external body (private company) to earmark suitable land for sale from schools. Since 2010 215 files were sold and in 2022 a further 316 were earmarked for sale.
These are local assets, things that we own. The family silver is being flogged from under us. Schools have been purposely underfunded in order to push them into private hands. PFI’s and the academy system (which private companies run the schools). The council schools are having to make the choice between keeping assets which long term can be developed into better facilities for students or paying the bills.

There’s been a rise of young people aged between 6 and 16 presenting to the NHS for mental health services. That has steadily risen year on year.
Those in the poorest areas are twice as likely not to be able to see a specialist (I’m sure we are all shocked by that) and from 2019 to 2023 there has been a 46% rise in referrals.
However, despite reform of the mental health act being a manifesto pledge for both the 2017 and 2019 elections Sunaks government has not seen fit to include it in the Kings Speech effectively shelving the promise.

This week while there have been floods, wild fires and the hottest global temperatures ever recorded in the last year. The government was debating its fossil fuel licensing bill.
While they may claim new gas and oil licenses would create better fuel security 80% of that oil and gas would be sold abroad on the global market and the governments own regulator North Sea transition authority says it will not bring down prices.
However renewables in the UK are now generating energy 9 times cheaper than oil or gas. But because they are linked to the global energy markets we are again paying more than we should.
This is harming families now and the exploitation of new oil and gas will harm families into the future.

We released it just before my tour in 2022 when Ric and I along with @muthatucka @thatdosacat and the glorious @alexis_saint_pete ran up and down the country during a heatwave singing and dancing up a storm!
