We are currently experiencing existential threats many of which are a direct result of capitalisms constant need for growth.
Theres been a lot of talk about the conservatives and fascism. There are a few signs of fascism and the tories have more than a couple to their name. One of them is the suppression of opposition. They have banned all anti capitalist material from schools.
Now I wasn’t the kind of kid who would be reading text books about fiscal policy or even political ideologies. I do think however that those should be available to children and young people if that’s what they want to read about.
The tories don’t because it challenges their entire ideology.

Before I crack on for the day with my actual job. I just wanted to say I know I haven’t addressed much of what’s happening this week. Mostly it’s because it’s filled me with a deep well of anger and desperation. The tories are failing us all so badly whilst cynically targeting those who are most vulnerable.

Food bank Usage and reliance has risen year on year since 2010 and we have hit the point where this year is the highest yet. The @trusselltrust does amazing work supporting struggling families. I’d rather they didn’t have to and peoples wages were in line (or even over) with what you need to actually live. We are where we are though. So if you can donate to them do.
Theres so many problems in our country but in the 6th biggest economy in the world people going hungry shouldn’t be one of them.

This week two prominent politicians have launched attacks against trans people’s rights to bodily autonomy, privacy and freedom.
They have cited concerns for women’s safety. They have framed a less than 0.5% population as a danger to women VS the 98% cis male offenders who are not even charged after perpetrating crimes.
We have a legal and justice system that has effectively decriminalised SA and Rape. Rather than actually address the issue these cynical politicians deflect and misdirect.
Let’s be very clear and attack on anyone’s right to bodily autonomy leads to further attacks on all our rights Roe V wade did not succumb to challenge in a vacuum.
There has been much talk about removing rights and freedoms and protections which stem from our human rights charter and the ECHR. Let us be 100% clear these people do not want us to have those rights, freedoms or protections and we have got to push back to stop them. If you really want to know what they want to do to us all read Britannia unchained. They want us stripped of all protection so we can be exploited.
The LGBTQ community is under attack and so are women’s rights. It’s is those who are supposed to be protecting us who are carrying out those attacks.

#austeritybritain during the pandemics one of the advisors (I think Vallance) referenced how many people die each year as a result of austerity.
Well it looks like that was a very @conservatives estimate. Research Carried out by Glasgow university has found that the number of deaths linked to austerity between 2012 and 2019. Now my maths isn’t great but even I can see that that is not 12k per year.
Austerity hasn’t gone and the noises being made by both parties are not comforting in the slightest as to what we should expect. Austerity flatlined our economy and peoples wages. It also kills.

What a cute time at @palaceandopera in Manchester seeing the press night for @julietmusical with @paul_yarwood_mcr and @carl_harris_mcr I met the producer too the wonderful Tim Headington who was delightful and spoke to us all after the show which was cute. The show is a lot of fun! Tim talked about how they wanted to create a show that was filled with joy and allowed folk to forget the world for a couple of hours and would make them want to dance by the end of it. Well that was definitely a success. It was also gorgeous to see @drranj treading the boards and being as glorious as ever with the wonderful @sandramarvinuk giving us VOCALS!
