Mostly cloudy with a chance for a slight breeze. @travisrice leaning in during our trip to Kamchatka, Russia, in 2013. The interior of the Kamchatka Peninsula gets my vote for most likely spot to see a mammoth stroll by.

@conrad_anker chillin’ at the icebox belay, contemplating his estranged relationship wiuth the sun while I toil above on Ulvetanna, back in 2017. Going in the shade in Antarctica meant a 10 degree drop in temps…which is normally fine…but when your base temp is -10 degrees F, it can be a little sad to leave the sun. Belay layering system on Ulvetanna = 3 base layers, synthetic puffy jacket, mid weight down jacket, big down parka, topped off with a really big down belay parka. I kept thinking about the kid in A Christmas Story.

As in life and in the mountains, things don’t always line up the way you want….and sometimes they do. @kitdski finding everything lining up quite nicely. Happy Monday folks! @djiglobal @thenorthface
In 2002, I went on expedition to the Chang Tang Plateau, in northwestern Tibet. @conrad_anker @rickridgeway, and the late Galen Rowell and I trekked 275 miles unsupported in search of the hidden birthing grounds of the chiru, a Tibetan antelope that had been pushed to the brink of extinction as demand for Shatoosh shawls – made from chiru cashmere – skyrocketed. After 25 days of trekking, we found the Chiru the day before they began giving birth.

When @kevin.thaw and @cedarwright and I camped in the Bandiagara Escarpment on our way to the Hand of Fatima, Mali, in 2004, we spent a few days with the local Dogon tribe, an ethnic group indigenous to the central plateau of Mali. Many of them lived in the cliff dwellings their ancestors had inhabited for over a milennium. Incredibly gracious, they invited us into their homes and gave us a glimpse into a different world from a different time.

2,000 feet of air and I don’t care…. @oceangoingmonkey on just another casual day of rigging. There are a few folks I actually look forward to working with when the stakes are high. Huck is always a smiling picture of calm under pressure. As they say, calm is contagious. @natgeo
