We’re taking over 1,800 family members, the children and surviving spouses. It’s always an honor to wrap my arms around them and remind them we do not forget their hero. Caption : 13 days ago, America lost a great American hero, US Navy SEAL (ret) Silver Star recipient Mike Day. Mike was shot 27 times in a gun fight in Iraq in 2007 and I had the privilege of visiting him in the hospital shortly after. Just an amazing guy. We stayed in touch over the years and on my first visit to Little Creek it was Mike who showed me around. His book Perfectly Wounded: a memoir about what happens after a miracle is a powerful read. My heart goes out to his family, his teammates and all who knew and loved him. God bless you Mike. It was an honor to know you. Thank you for serving our country. R.I.P. my friend.Likes : 28219

Caption : 28 years ago today, Forrest Gump hit the box office. I was honored to play the wounded Vietnam Veteran, Lt Dan Taylor, and represent so many of our wounded veterans who selflessly served our country. And today, 28 years later, it’s an honor to help “the real Lt. Dan’s” through the @garysinisefoundation. Much like my character in the movie, these heroes suffer not only physical wounds, but invisible ones. I believe we can never do enough for them. I am forever grateful for the opportunity Forrest Gump gave me, and the Army veteran who changed my life forever, Lt. Dan Taylor. #icecreamLikes : 13417

Teddy and I became pals when we first met years ago at the National Memorial Day parade in DC (pictured here). We were talking and I noticed he was wearing a jacket that said 8th Air Force 379th Bomb Group. My Uncle Jack served in the same B 17 bomb group and turns out they knew each other and had flown together. Teddy was the last surviving member of the 379th. On the day we departed from Washington DC aboard a Northwest Airlines 747, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life. This trip, where I was fortunate to visit with troops stationed at Camp Udari, Camp Doha, Camp Sayliyah, and in and around Baghdad, was the first of over 100 USO tours overseas and across the country that I would make in the coming years. It was a landmark moment in my journey from self to service, playing a pivotal role in the creation of the Gary Sinise Foundation. 20 years later, I am truly a Grateful American.Likes : 9355

Music was Mac’s passion, and his final wish was to bring some of the music that he’d written years ago and tucked away to new life, along with some old songs that meant something to him. He did it, and we are happy to now share it with all of you. For everyone who has already purchased an album, thank you. Caption : Today, we remember those we lost on September 11, 2001, and the families who continue to grieve. The images from that tragic day of the brave men and women who were running towards the crumbling buildings in New York and Washington, and the stories of the brave passengers on United 93 who fought back against the terrorists, are forever embedded in my memory. I often think of my dear friend, retired New York Fire Captain John Vigiano, whose two sons, one a police officer and the other a firefighter, ran towards danger to save others, losing their lives in the process. I will never take for granted their selfless sacrifice and commitment to rescuing their fellow citizens, and the bravery of all first responders who were lost that day. Today, I think of their families and friends, and their fellow professionals who continue to answer the call each day in our nation’s communities. I thank God for you all, and I want you to know that I will always have your back. We will never forget.Likes : 6298

I’m temporarily taking over his social media (yes, he has absolutely no idea this is happening 😆). The team and I have come up with a BIRTHDAY SURPRISE for Gary and we hope you’ll join us to make it extra special! In Gary’s bio is the link for YOU to sign his birthday card with your own personal message. If you love his mission for our nation’s heroes, are a huge fan of his theater, TV, and movie masterpieces, or just want to wish him a “happy birthday”, please follow the link. I know he’s going to be so moved to see your messages of love and support. And remember, it’s a secret!Likes : 6029

Caption : Just got home from our incredible trip honoring the families of fallen military heroes, our annual Snowball Express event at Disney World. Next week we do it all again for the families of our fallen first responders. Uplifting the surviving children and spouses of those who gave their last measure to our country and communities, right before the holidays which is often a difficult time for these families, is incredibly special to me and our mission at Gary Sinise Foundation. Thank you to all our incredible corporate sponsors, our staff, volunteers, and to all of you who support our mission. We hugged each and every one of them for you. 🙏🏼🇺🇸Likes : 5675
