Today, it’ll be 30 years since the opening of Forrest Gump. Playing the role of wounded Vietnam veteran Lt. Dan Taylor was more than a movie role, little did I know it would set the stage for decades of support of our wounded heroes and their families. During the run of CSI NY, for 8 seasons in a row I would bring my band out in October for what we called our “Mid Season Bash” on the CBS lot in Studio City. It was a great way to say thank you to our wonderful cast and crew and to enjoy some fun with folks working at the studio. Just got home from our incredible trip honoring the families of fallen military heroes, our annual Snowball Express event at Disney World. Next week we do it all again for the families of our fallen first responders. Uplifting the surviving children and spouses of those who gave their last measure to our country and communities, right before the holidays which is often a difficult time for these families, is incredibly special to me and our mission at Gary Sinise Foundation. It was 40 years ago this month that my brother in law, LT Colonel Boyd McCanna “Mac” Harris, finished his work on this field manual for the US Army. He died of cancer just before it was published. In 2016, 33 years later, for his significant contributions to the Army, he was inducted into the Fort Leavenworth Hall of Fame. Thank you Mac.
From the beginning of GSF, we have wanted to send a message of support to military service members, veterans, police and fire departments and the everyday heroes who serve and sacrifice keeping us safe and free. Along with that message, through the generosity of the American people who support us, we provide a meal. Sitting around a dinner or lunch table, enjoying a meal together is a beautiful way to help to build community and to let these folks know we do not forget. After the tragic shooting in Highland Park Illinois, heading into the one year anniversary of that July 4 event, @garysinisefoundation had the honor of serving some heroes there.

It’s here, folks! Today marks the 13th Anniversary of the @GarySiniseFoundation. As we step into our 14th year, I find myself reflecting on the journey so far. Over the years, I’ve had the immense honor of meeting countless heroes from our military and first responder communities. So many of these great Americans have touched my heart, and so many great Americans care about our defenders and want to give back to them. It is incredible for me to think about where we started and how far we have come. And I haven’t done it alone – you’ve been with me every step of the way. Your support has allowed us to expand our programming to serve, honor, and meet the needs of the brave men and women, and their families who have sacrificed so much for our safety. So many lives have been impacted over the last 13 years, and thanks to generous friends like you, we stand ready to help even more.
