Another minimum wage increase may look good to the employee but it’s only short term as small businesses who employ 42% is the private sector workforce can’t afford to keep their doors open. In fact 43% said they aren’t making a profit. This means the wage increase is not going to fix the problem if the business closes its doors and all staff are unemployed. We need to be contacting our federal MP and demanding to know what they are doing with: ➡️ the cost of living; ➡️ the skyrocketing energy costs; ➡️ the supermarket duopoly; ➡️ rental/housing crisis Don’t let the government turn this into an us versus them. On Friday @smallbusinesswomenaustralia celebrated the completion of our 4-week @futurenotfollowers program for high school girls in the Dubbo region with a graduation held at CWA Trangie. To introduce the day, students heard from businesswoman and CWA Trangie Branch Secretary Amanda Ferrari. Students from Trangie Central School and Narromine HS participated in a day focused on confidence-building and entrepreneurial skills, as part of a comprehensive program teaching financial literacy skills to high school girls. Facilitating real-world learning, Tiz Porreca (@amongst_marketing®) hosted a panel with local businesswomen Peta Simpson (P.S. Websites Design), Lottie Ray (The Studio Trangie) and Madeline Williams (Snaps by Madds), who shared candidly about their business journey and what they’ve learned along the way. Feedback showed that all the students are now more interested in learning how to manage their goals, careers and finances after completing the program. As quoted by one student “I am so excited to learn more about how I can have control over my finances, and my own business in the future, and to really get it up and running! FNF taught me some really insightful tips for everyday life, and I’m ready to look into it more now that I know both the basics and specific tools to support me.” Each student was presented with a graduation certificate to mark the completion of the program. 🪴A topic that gets people fired up. Legalising cannabis. Personally I’m not a fan of having cannabis accessible to anyone at anytime. I’ve read the studies, spoken to experts but more importantly I’ve seen first hand what it does to people, their futures and their families. 🎯 What we need to be looking into us WHY do people want to escape reality? Whether it’s via cannabis, excessive gambling, alcoholism etc. A drug used for escapism can lead to addiction which ends in destruction.
