Earlier this week my friends and I got together in Miami to collect ocean plastic & discuss the upcoming votes for international policy about plastic waste. Itβs bittersweet to witness the amount of trash washing up on beaches all around the world (a reality the @4Ocean crew unfortunately see every day), but also an incredibly rewarding experience and served as a jumping off point for so many discussions and initiatives..
@h.fisk.johnson is @SCJβs CEO and chairman & along with #DebFiddelke has implemented and initiated countless corporate programs & led the way in that (highly complex) effort to ensure a more sustainable, transparent and healthy future. They shared their strong stance on the Extended Producer Responsibility Federal policies (EPR) internally and with the Senate committee on Environment & Public Works. Scientist #DallasMatz also tested multiple samples from each location for micro-plastics & this data continues to serve propel initiatives and much needed research.
@alexjschulze (4ocean founder), @grateful.grant @j@josh_liberman @henryrbliss @dominicmanzo & the entire crew do this clean-up work every day, they see the worst of what people discard carelessly and yet they approach each day with enthusiasm, a smile and inexplicable energy. I canβt express how inspired I was to see the passion shown in what could be (for most people) a very draining and disheartening experience. They are, despite all odds, bursting with hope.
Influencers, public figures and individuals with countless privileges and opportunities to turn a blind eye to the situation, like this impressive group: @dr.evanantin @hofitgolanofficial @toddkrim @_katiemljohnson, but who nevertheless prefer to put their resources/efforts/time into furthering these causesβ¦ are so important in a world mostly focused on the personal gain. Iβve seen these wonderful people consistently strive to become better informed, more educated, and more dedicated to the ocean in ways I can only hope to emulate.
