An eclipse is rare. Human kindness and service are not.
A powerful reflection from CBS’ Major Garrett on the workers killed when the Key Bridge collapsed in Baltimore that everyone should watch.
Chlorpyrifos is an incredibly harmful chemical that we spray on foods in the United States. In fact, it’s so harmful that the EU, Canada, and other countries have banned it because it has been definitively proven to harm children’s brains, even in trace amounts. A few months ago the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a ban on this chemical, allowing the its use in the U.S. We have an urgency here, to fight for a permanent ban on the use of this chemical in our country. As a U.S. Senator it is my duty to protect American children and families, and I promise to be a leader in this fight.
This video of Willie Spence came across my feed and brightened my day…then I learned his story. While his time on this earth was tragically cut short, his journey through music was incredibly inspiring. His gift of song has continued to touch and reach so many, including myself. I hope that hearing his voice reminds us not to wait to do what brings us joy. Not to wait to Shine Bright Like A Diamond.
Surprise someone with a small act of kindness today. I’d love to hear your story. Comment below or tag me when you do. In a world with too much division, may we never forget that our kindness can multiply. Thanks for the inspiration @mdmotivator
Here’s to those who seek to learn from wise people who are grounded, thoughtful, generous of spirit and relentlessly kind.
A gentle reminder…
We deserve a food system that works for our health, and not against it. Right now, large multinational factory farms and meatpackers are putting our food system at risk due to their immense buying power and size. The losers are consumers, the environment, independent family farmers, animals and our climate. We need to fix the broken system. We can have a system that promotes health, empowers farmers, protects the environment and treats animals more humanely.
Happy birthday to my brother Cary. I often call him “The Better Booker.” He is a prince of a man and has been often in my life like a third parent, a source of wisdom and guidance and unconditional love. And, very importantly, we have had a lot of fun over the years. Thank you for this particular hard hitting lesson: Fall down 7 times; get up 8.
Food Inc. 2, out now, showcases how the odds are stacked against Americans. Together we can build a fair and just food system for all.
#tbt to when @roywoodjr and I talked about the American food system. I remain committed to fighting for access to affordable, healthy foods.
#FoodInc2 takes another important and timely look at our broken food system… and the people working to fix it. Change is on the menu at foodinc2.com
A civil war in Sudan that started one year ago has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions of people. In March, I led a Congressional delegation to the Chad – Sudan border and visited a large and growing refugee camp. We witnessed the enormity of the crisis and the extent of the unfulfilled need firsthand. There are so many crises in the world that demand our attention, but the crisis in Sudan must not suffer from our indifference. We have the power to save lives and help those suffering.
Such a remarkable night at the DC premiere of FOOD, INC. 2. I am thrilled to be a part of the conversation to deliver solutions to the systemic problems that are plaguing our food system. It’s time for a system that’s better for farmers, workers, consumers… and everyone who eats. And what a joy to sit next to @michael.pollan author of books like “The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural history of Four Meals” and one of the great forces behind this documentary.

We have a massive corporate concentration problem that is transforming our food system for the worse. It is driving independent farmers and ranchers out of business; hurting workers and consumers and large scale factory farming is hurting our environment and is cruel to animals. Flashback to 2008 when Food Inc. ignited a national conversation around our food system. It’s still true today that only a few companies control over 80% of American beef production…which is why this conversation is as important now than ever.
PERSEVERE.
For a star to be born, there is one thing that must happen: a gaseous nebula must collapse. So collapse. Crumble. This is not your destruction. This is your birth. -Zoe Skylar
A look back on FOOD, INC. highlighting the disparity of food costs. Only 7 % of our agricultural subsidies go to the fruits and vegetables doctors and nutritionists tell us we need as the main part of a healthy diet. The lion share of our agricultural subsidies go to the ingredients in ultra processed foods that are making us sick, driving up health care costs and putting too many families in the difficult situation of not being able to afford the healthy foods they want.
