Artemis Pebdani Instagram – RP • @centerforhumanrights At least 2,843 students at 45 universities in Iran have reportedly been summoned to disciplinary committees in a statewide campaign aimed at preventing more anti-state protests ahead of the #WomanLifeFreedom movement’s September 16 anniversary.
These committees are acting like arms of the state’s repression machine. Students and professors have described to the Center for Human Rights in Iran how individual officials at the universities have also been particularly egregious rights violators and enforcers of the state’s crackdown. Those officials and these committees should be investigated by international human rights mechanisms such as the UN Human Rights Council’s Fact-Finding Mission on Iran.
