Liberté Chan Instagram – Arsenic is a naturally occurring substance that can be found in the air, water and soil.
The toxic substance can be found in small amounts in many foods, but the crop with the highest amount of inorganic arsenic is rice. The EPA classifies inorganic arsenic as a “human carcinogen” with links to cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory issues, and cognitive conditions.
One quick way to lower your exposure: parboil your rice (partially boil your rice):
– Add 1-2 cups of uncooked rice to water and boil it for five minutes.
– Remove the pot and use a strainer to discard the arsenic water.
– Return rice to the pot or add to a rice cooker and add fresh water.
Enjoy!
