I lived in Park Royal NW10 from aged 15 and I hated it because it was a flipping Industrial Estate…it has been BROUGHT TO LIFE though by these gorgeous tents of foodie joy…Lebenese, Iraqi and Syrian mostly…Loads of artists are pitching up in cheaper studios and the place is a haven of creativity. Go and discover this pocket of London before it becomes gentrified and the tents get taken over my chains and they start calling everything ‘street food’. Think you will never be a refugee? My family didn’t either. Yet we were. It’s not something anyone plans. I’m delighted to be a part of ‘Refugees Reframed’ It’s a privilege to be photographed alongside ten other refugees who are rebuilding their stolen lives in the face of adversity. I was a young child and know the aching heartache of exile as well as the practical struggles, as my parents rebuilt our lives while displaced and disoriented. I felt incredible kindness towards us, but also saw how an attitude which often dismissed and derided my parents because their English was not fluent or they did not ‘fit in’. Such things leave an indelible mark on children. I am ridiculously proud of myself so posting a vid too. Not allowing clutter to overwhelm me is a daily battle with ADHD and I started to feel so trapped by the mounting collection of books on my stairs, my floor, my bed…It really started to pull me into that pit…it sounds bonkers but the book clutter dominated my thoughts and was bringing up shame and feelings of uselessness…but I mobilised and not feel free! #adhd #adhdclutter

Damn. Forgot to do ‘before’ pics. These shelves in my downstairs loo were an eyesore of hoarding …old paint pots, boxing gloves…lots of junk…all decluttered /rehomed/disposed of and all the books I have been tripping up over as I ran out of room now have a home. I have taken a breather from 25 years of nonstop working…I’m not one for holidays really…but the headspace this has given me is PEACE!
