“I loved working with the stunt team (on The Marvels). The way that they train you and look after you, and make you feel like you can do what they’ve been doing for 30-plus years in the space of six months, is truly amazing. I start to well up a bit when I talk about them. My character (DarBenn) was really built through working with them. I’m not someone who was ever encouraged at school to take on a physical life… I feel emotional that I got to have a second chance at being encouraged physically and really taking to it.“

We got dressed up and went and celebrated two authors I’d unbelievably never heard of: Sibilla Aleramo and Alba de Céspedes. Forces of nature, writing ahead of their time in the challenging classification of memoir. Having written in the memoir space, albeit a very unconventional one, it really came to me during the discussions we had that to write from your life is to potentially be trying to find the ‘language of your life’.
