Last night, I kissed the cuffs that violently tore me from home. Thanking them for imprisoning me (in a room full of unknown spirits) who have become family. ᴬᵘᵗᵒⁿᵒᵐʸ arrives tomorrow. This piece is rooted in creating an experience of oscillating access, evoking the perpetual strain of inclusion that I experience every day. Creating these intentional moments questions and reveals how the act of creating access for one can inevitably result in in-access for another. Can’t wait to release with you all tomorrow ❤️🩹

Peek into day two of ᴬᵘᵗᵒⁿᵒᵐʸ rehearsals… Production this week felt like summer camp, grateful for the hands and hearts at work alongside of me for this spiritual, mental, and physical release. 🔍Behind the scenes with Chella Man, ahead of their presentation at Frieze New York 2024 in collaboration with @Performance.Space.New.York. @ChellaMan is an artist, writer, educator, and performer living as a cyborg, committed to revealing continuums of disability, linguistics, queerness, and healing across a multidisciplinary practice. Their work “The Device That Turned Me into a Cyborg Was Born the Same Year I Was” considers Chella Man’s relationship with their cochlear implant and the spectrum of existence between the deaf and hearing worlds. “The Device…” connects to their performance “Autonomy”, explored in the footage above. 🎬 Watch “The Device That Turned Me into a Cyborg Was Born the Same Year I Was” on Level 4 of the Shed from May 1–5 and experience “Autonomy” at Performance Space New York on May 2 at 7pm.
