Dina Deleasa Instagram – Having some easy variations for pasta can help shake up your regular dinner time routine. When I feel like marinara sauce is getting a bit played out I love playing with ingredients. Adding in olives to make a puttanesca or this simple variation, adding prosciutto with sauteed onion gives the traditional red sauce something “extra.”

You can usually find this cubed prosciutto in the grocery store refrigerator section near the bacon. However, you can also ask the deli counter to cut you a slice of prosciutto 1/4 inch thick and cube it yourself.

1 tbsp olive oil
4 oz cubed prosciutto
1 cup thinly sliced yellow onion, cut into half moons
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 cup dry white wine
28 oz can crushed tomato
1/4, tsp kosher salt
1/8 tsp black pepper

Heat the olive oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the prosciutto, saute until browned about 5 minutes. Add in the onion, if the pan is dry, drizzle a little more olive oil, let the onions saute for about 5 minutes, moving them around the pan periodically. Season with 1/4 tsp kosher salt, and one 1/ teaspoon black pepper, continue to cook for 3 more minutes, then add in the wine, bringing it to simmer. Let it simmer for about 3 minutes before adding in the crushed tomatoes. Give it a gentle stir, and bring it to the simmer, and cover. Lower the flame and let it simmer for about 8 more minutes. Serve over pasta of choice!
