As you’ll probably know, I’m competing in @missworld at the moment, with my main aim being to use the platform to engage more girls in engineering 😃 Yesterday we boarded a flight to Mumbai where I managed to get a shot of myself and our A321 aircraft’s pitot tubes – but do you know what these things are used for? Pitot tubes are essentially an aircraft’s speedometers. You’ll find them protruding from aircraft with their axis hole front facing and other small holes perpendicular. A pressure transducer connected to the tubes measures the difference between static and total pressure, and this value, along with the measured air density, can be subbed into Bernoulli’s equation to find the the velocity of the aircraft. Decarbonising aviation with hydrogen ✈️ At 10pm on Thursday night I found out I’d made it to the top 25 in the head to head challenge, and needed to deliver a 3 minute speech concerning one of six topics discussed at the G20 Summit (I chose climate change) the next morning.
