Happy and Healthy New Year to you all from #srilanka . May better sense prevail in the world, so that we can have a more peaceful, equal and a just world. Tough to be truly happy if there are many who are unhappy. Our lives are deeply intertwined. Today I am making promises I hope to keep, for myself, for my child and the world we live in. Be well and have a glorious year ahead. 💕💕

It was an interesting experience to be at the World Health Organization headquarters and have the opportunity to interact with so many people who engage globally with so many aspects of health. I confess, I have had a bit of a disdain for big organisations and always rooted for the grassroots ones. But both are needed and nobody’s work is easy. To get almost 200 countries to even agree on a mandate must be a challenge. I was on the jury of their Health for All Film Festival and announced the winners. The evening was special. Listening to the Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the PM of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, former PM of UK, Gordon Brown and others made me realise what a mammoth task it is to deal with health issues and emergencies around the world. It was interspersed with Farah El Dibany’s powerful and soulful singing. Was happy to snuggle up with the incredible young dancers from Africa. What a lovely evening!! #HealthForAllFilmFestival @who @drtedros @farraheldibanyofficial @mamottley #gordonbrown @grrregilreb @swisssilverbullet

Congratulations #payalkapadia Sorry I am late in joining the celebrations as in the midst of travel. Also because I wanted to say more. True celebration of your achievement would be to believe and applaude all that you stand for, in life and work. And to believe that such stories need to be told and in the manner that is real and life-like. Thank you for opening the doors for more independent cinema in India. 🤞🏽💥❤️ Keep shining and giving us hope. #allweimagineaslight @festivaldecannes
Got in yesterday from London to Geneva for an engagement with @who More on this later. For now sharing the magic from the skies. The clouds, the colours of Lake Geneva… And did you guess what the little white dots were, without zooming in? Windmills in water! How amazing!! #geneva #sky

Attended the opening of the General Assembly of @who and participated at a round table that had opening remarks by @drtedros and key note by the dean of the medical school of University of California. The panel consisted of the global director for health nutrition and population at @worldbank , health ministers from Indonesia, Singapore and Ireland. Some other health ministers joined virtually. On the panel I was the lone woman and broke the colour palette with a bright orange dupatta! I spoke about the role of art and cinema in amplifying their message, in reaching more people, in changing perceptions, challenging prejudices and correcting misinformation. Though most of our cinema doesn’t use this power it has. Anyhow the others were doing the heavy lifting and pledged serious funds for WHO to do more work. We need everyone – from policymakers to grassroots volunteers to media to every individual to commit to better health for all. Through this experience I realised the magnitude of the problem but also the enormous work that is happening and needs to happen. Sorry if it’s boring you. But for my personal diary that I keep here, it was an important learning experience that I would like to remember. #health #healthforall
