Always a joy to be in Kolkata, and for a literary festival, even more so! Three packed days of my film screenings, multiple conversations, on and off the record. Lot of sharing, listening, thinking. The brain is happy 🙂 Thank you, Malavika, for the invitation and for bringing such wonderful authors, artistes and audiences together. And the venue itself was special: the old Alipore Jail, now a museum — tall red brick walls, layered histories, quiet charm from another time. Kolkata never disappoints. An informed, curious audience that reads, watches, debates…catching up with old friends and meeting strangers with equal depth, you rarely find elsewhere. Didn’t quite manage a proper food crawl this time, but there was plenty of food for thought. Came back with two big boxes of nolen gur sandesh for me and my loved ones, enough to fatten me and them! Wore a mix of my old outfits and some new. A special mention to the colourful kurta and scarf by @paromitabanerjee — always a joy to wear clothes made by someone whose sensibilities and intent align. Thank you Paromita for adding cheer to a very rushed day and to Ipshita for taking some of these photos. @kolkatalitmeet @malavikabanerjee

Happy Republic Day! This Republic Day @nanditadasofficial reads the rights on Equality and Non Discrimination from The Indian Constitution – Articles 14 and 15: Article 14: The State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India. Article 15: The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them. Nandita said: “These basic rights are so important because they remind us that equality and justice are for all, without exception – they are the foundation of our democracy.” Read Me My Rights is a collective campaign of artists spreading awareness about the Fundamental Rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution and United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We inspire citizens to know their basic rights and stand for equality. Nandita Das at Exide Kolkata Literary Meet 2026 From the invisible labour of delivery agents and the quiet politics of Zwigato to imagining authors like Manto on screen—Nandita Das reflected on dignity, silence, and storytelling as acts of responsibility. Cinema, she reminded us, matters most when it listens to those at the margins. #nanditadas #kalam2026 #kolkataliterarymeet #manto #zwigato
A short hectic trip to Delhi was worth it. Always happy and inspired to meet people who work on the ground and put their neck on the line for a larger good. It gives me hope for a more just world. So glad I made Zwigato, a mirror to the reality of the gig workers. The post film discussion was not about the film, and yet it was everything that the film talked about! They raised urgent questions around the human cost of conveniences that platform-driven economies provide us. Very grateful to the gig workers association for bringing them together to share their stories candidly and courageously. This is why some of us make films — to create space for those that have been made invisible. Discussions like these give cinema meaning far beyond the screen. Thanks to everyone who made it possible- @gigwaindia @manojkumarjhamp @svaradarajan @applausesocial

When authors are reimagined—not adapted. In Imagining the Author, Nandita Das and Srijit Mukherji reflect on translating literary minds to the screen—grappling with the inner lives of Saadat Hasan Manto and Arthur Conan Doyle, beyond biography and myth. In conversation with Jashodhara Chakraborti. What does it take to imagine the imagination of a writer—and make it cinematic? #KolkataLiteraryMeet #KindleCast #ImaginingTheAuthor #NanditaDas #SrijitMukherji
