Adding my voice to all those who are today wishing Aamir Khan a very happy 60th B’day. I first met Aamir in 1997/8 for Earth (in India it was called 1947 Earth…we like to spell out things! I think it is one of his finest performances. Even though he betrays me in the film (spoiler!), we really got along and our friendship continued. Soon after, he was keen for me to do a film with him. I am sure the director, and producer were unhappy with the choice! This dark girl who had done films like Fire and Hazaar Chaurasi ki Maa for this big commercial film. No way! But who could say no to Aamir! I too wqs not keen at all as films wasn’t something that I was serious about. But as Aamir wqs, a photoshoot was organised where I was made to look fairer than him! 😅🤦🏽♀️ After that I was sure I didn’t want to do the film! Even when I meet them all today, we laugh about it! I am sure when they see this photo, it will bring a smile to their face. But Aamir, thanks for your trust in me. We have met here and there since. And at 60 Aamir remains a grounded man full of wonder and dreams. May all your dreams come true and may you always dream wisely! 😜 Hope you had a great day! 🤗🤗

Stunning show of textiles from Bengal curated by Darshan and team of Weavers Studio at the beautiful Kolkata Centre for Creativity. Why had I never been to this state or the art space?! Darshan has a huge contribution in preserving and sustaining hand crafted weaves. My go to place for clothes in Kolkata! In Kolkata, check out both places! @weaversstudiokolkata @kccinkolkata

The Das family wishes everyone a reflective Independence Day. Happy seems a bit of an odd word that we prefix with every special day. Each day invokes a different sentiment. You can add your prefix to today. And all are valid.
Just got back from the Sahitya Akademi Literary Festival. Amazing to see how a 70 year old institution brings together so many literary figures from all over the country. There were writers, scholars, artists, journalists, govt. officials etc etc who shared their thoughts on various subjects. Only wish that more knew about it and could come to listen to the eminent speakers and be part of stimulating discussions. For me it became a part of my family time! I spoke on the 9th on a panel about ‘Ink to visual: literary works that make Interesting Cinema’. And then on the 11th, my father spoke about ‘Shared spaces between literature & other art forms’ and mother, on ‘What poetry means to me?’ We all attended each other’s session of course! Brother dear stuck to being a cheer leader! Since my childhood I have been visiting Rabindra Bhawan, which has the three cultural bodies under one roof – Sahitya, Sangeet and Lalit Kala Akademi. My father has held shows there, my mother worked there for a few years, so it brought back many memories. A few photos, but mainly to chronicle it for my diary! @sahityakademi @murtazacritic @mugdhaspk @rentalajayadeva #festivalofletters2025

The International Women’s Day is here again. Lately we have been talking a lot about women, but surely not doing enough. The gap is huge and let’s not get fooled by all the blabber, the ads, the celebrations and virtue signalling. We have a long way to go. But we also mustn’t forget that we _have_ come a long way. Thanks to many known and unknown women who dared to dream. I am a sucker for quotes. And these powerful women say it just right. Here are a few quick ones from me. Please add more that will inspire us to close the gap. #internationalwomensday #women

Didn’t know that this early and this is how I would be ‘announcing’ my next directorial film! But here it is! I had first written the story 20 years ago! Just hadn’t felt emotionally equipped to actually put it down on paper. But now I do and have a fully bound script ready to be made into an intimate and nuanced film. Our very own Marriage Story! Slowly and surely I’m gathering the best possible cast and crew for the film. And for funding trying a different route this time – the Film Market! It is at a new festival in Chandigarh but has women I admire, helming it, so I know it will be special. If you are or know a producer/financier who cares about such stories, believes in the director’s vision and wants to make a film about relationships, then DM me…now! Or see me at the Chandigarh Film Festival on the 20th of March ‘25. The photo on the poster is more than a decade old! Look for me in my glasses! 📍 March 20-23, 2025 | CIFF2025 | Chandigarh @cinev_in #chandigarhfilmfestival #ciff2025
Two years ago, Zwigato released in theatres. March 2023 was soon after Covid but the habit of watching films in cinema halls had faded away. They could be enticed to see only big budget spectacles and not smaller human stories. The stories about people who are slowly becoming invisible. But the OTTs are a saviour for films like these. So if you haven’t seen it yet, please watch it on Amazon Prime Video. And if you have, then a big thank you and please spread the word. @applausesocial @kapilsharma @shahanagoswami @segaldeepak sameern @gulpanag @sayanigupta @swanandkirkire @sunidhichauhan5 @hiteschsonik @deva_stating @primevideoin #ZwigatoOnPrime #Zwigato
