NO BLOODY CORKS ! This is precisely WHY I will not have crappy corks in my wine . For almost a quarter of a century Two Paddocks Wines have been under Stelvin closures. Our wines age well under screwcaps , and the chances of catastrophic failure like this are almost zero. Don’t let anyone tell you a silly cork is ‘romantic’ , or some other bollocks . In the meantime , SORRY FOR SWEARING. ( just a bit … this was an infuriating cork ) @twopaddocks

Grew some strange carrots this year . But this couple took the biscuit .
ONE BIG PILE OF STEAMING … MANURE. News – yesterday at the we won ‘Sustainable Vineyard of the Year’ at the Aotearoa NZ Organic Wine Awards ( plus 2 Golds & 2 Silvers for our wines) . Very proud. Manure of course is central to that and our fully organic approach. What is it ? If you must know – grape skins and stems, meadow hay , and cowshit. Waste from the vineyard and farm all used in other words. What does it do ? Provides organic matter for the soil , food for our vines , beneficial funghi and bacteria , adding nitrogen to the earth etc . This year we will also add biochar from tree trimmings – more waste put to work . Organic Two Paddocks – thats us ! #jeffgoldblum #organics #nzwine @twopaddocks
Our dear Southern NZ Dotterel is in trouble . Department of Conservation’s latest count shows just 101 birds left , with a 19% decline this year alone . These beautiful creatures , who nest in the alpine tops of Rakiura , are being decimated by feral cats . I’m proud to be an Ambassador of The NZ Nature Fund, who are working tirelessly to protect these birds , but they need our help . They need $400,000 to make a real difference . You can donate at : https://nznaturefund.org/projects/southern-dotterel-tuturiwhatu/ (link in my bio ). #SaveTheDotterel #NZNatureFund #conservation @nz.nature.fund

TROPHY ! BEST PINOT NOIR at SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE ! “Two Paddocks is delighted to announce that The Last Chance, Alexandra Pinot Noir 2019 has been awarded both a Platinum Award and the Pinot Noir Trophy at the 2024 Shanghai International Wine Challenge. It’s the 18th year that the awards have been held in Shanghai and there were over 800 entrants from all over the globe. Judges included Ronny Lau, James Dai, Jane Skilton MW, Cathy van Zyl MW , Rod Smith MW, Arneis Wu, Andy Tan and several renown Chinese sommeliers and wine professionals. A very strong result for Team NZWine as New Zealand took home four of the nine trophies presented on the night. Babich was awarded the Sauvignon Blanc Trophy and special mention to Trinity Hill for winning both the Chardonnay and Syrah Trophies. Two Paddock’s , The Last Chance Vineyard, is a tiny two hectare pinot noir block, perched high above the Alexandra Valley in Central Otago, New Zealand. It bequests to the visitor spectacular views of the aquamarine Clutha River below and The Old Man Mountain Range to the south and is one of the most southerly vineyards on the planet. Tiny volumes of this rare organically grown single site pinot noir are produced and they consistently achieve significant ratings – typically amongst international wine publications. The founder / proprietor of Two Paddocks, Sam Neill, purchased and planted The Last Chance site in 1998 with carefully chosen Dijon clones had the following to say about the win- “The Last Chance vineyard literally sits on the precipice of possibility and is probably my favourite vineyard site – whilst the bold Central Otago views are spectacular, the wines themselves are subtle, savoury and understated – and it’s gratifying to see these qualities being recognised and rewarded by the judges.” Sam Neill / June 2024 The vineyard has been farmed for nearly twenty years by Viticulturist Mike Wing and Winemaker, Dean Shaw, has been producing the wine since the first vintage in 2002.” @twopaddocks
